Has anyone done nosework?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Becky Focht Oct 24, 2013. 8 Replies

I was thinking about trying this with Luke but I haven't heard much about it from corgi people. He always has his nose to the ground during walks though so I figured he might enjoy it, lol. Has…Continue

Ugh seriously! Both Luke and Henry have kennel cough...I feel so bad for them! They sound miserable. And the two of us humans are also miserable because we can't get much sleep lol. They're on a…Continue

Jane replied to Esther's discussion personality: choosing a puppy
"Ask the breeder's opinion. They have raised the puppies since birth so they should have the best insight into their personalities. That being said, it's pretty hard to predict such specific behaviors as you listed."

Jane replied to Kay White's discussion Anyone else with a Pem that has a 2"or larger tail?
"Does the fur grow out white at the tip of his tail? It's hard to tell in the first photo. If so, he may be a natural bobtail. But yes, there are a lot of incorrectly docked pems out there."

Jane replied to Katrina's discussion Merrick All Life Stages!!!!
"I think she would be fine to switch to an ALS formula at any time. Many breeders don't recommend regular puppy food for corgis at all, as it makes them grow too quickly. Rather they suggest a "large breed" puppy formula or an ALS food."

Jane replied to Oktavian Putra Agusta's discussion Spaying my Female Corgi
"If they were my dogs I would spay the female at ~6 months before her first heat as it reduces the chances of mammary cancer, and neuter the male at around 1 year old. Regarding the potential legginess of neutering early, here is what the AVMA says…"

Jane replied to Sarah Hammond's discussion 4 year old Corgi refuses to go down our stairs, please help!
"Work with him by luring him down with treats or put a gate up so he can't follow you up. I think it's kind of mean to leave the dog stranded when it sounds like he's afraid of the steps for whatever reason."

Jane replied to Esther's discussion question on getting a corgi
"They can do fine in an apartment provided they have enough exercise. They are definitely not lap dogs and require quite a bit of mental and physical stimulation. A grown adult can go up and down stairs fine, but it's generally recommended to…"

Jane replied to Katherine Wipfli's discussion Two Puppies?
"I would highly recommend just getting one. Two puppies tend to bond more with each other, and they also need to be extensively socialized ALONE, which is hugely time consuming. It's about a million times easier to raise a second puppy once the…"

Jane replied to Kristen & Rory's discussion Ho-Hum Vet Visit
"I wouldn't take him back to that vet if at all possible. You were correct to use the cheese when he was afraid - and yes, dogs do snap and growl due to fear. That vet sounds like he needs a refresher course on dog behaviors. I also agree with…"

Jane replied to Grace's discussion 5 Months.. Will he get any bigger?
"Corgis usually have most of their height and length by 6 months old or so, but will continue to fill out and gain weight for around 2 years."

Jane replied to Vicky Hay's discussion When do corgis typically come into heat? When to spay?
"I think 6 months is pretty normal for females. I believe it reduces their chances of mammary cancer a great deal if they never go into a heat."

Jane replied to Chrystal Harvey's discussion can anyone determine his color?

Jane replied to Sarah Saadeddine's discussion New Puppy

Jane commented on Vicky Hay's blog post Parvo? REALLY?
"I'm not trying to be argumentative, but dogs can still get parvo if they are vaccinated. The symptoms should be less severe since they've had the immunization, but it is still possible. You can bring it into your home on your shoe or a…"

Cute pair, I enjoyed viewing your photos!

I saw you mentioned on another post that you get your martingales from etsy, I was wondering which sellers you liked the most? I've had a hard time finding a seller that sells a variety of patterns in martingale. :/

Love your photos! It's so neat to see such gorgeous representatives of the two breeds next to each other. Anyone with questions as to the physical differences between Cardigans and Pembrokes should have a look at your page.
