CRATES?????
I've been trying to get my supplies list together for when my new arrival comes, so I'm as prepared as possible. I've gotten great info from mycorgi, but I haven't found anything on crate sizes. The breeder I'm getting my new budle of joy from has the pups crate trained when they leave her, and I don't know what size crate is too big, or too small. I figured I'd ask you guys because the last size related purchase I made, I ordered a custom built dog house for my border collie/lab mix (not wanting it to be too cramped) and you could probably fit 3 St. bernards in it comfortably!!! HELP!!!

Alittle over a year ago we bought a puppy from a breeder (not a corgi) once we had her home and we saw how tiny she actually was we bought her a crate then, we purposefully waited till we had her to see what size crate to buy : )
Also and I dont know why I didnt think of this earlier, ask your breeder! She would be the best person to ask !

When we talked to our breeder she said that a medium sized crate would do the trick and it measured about 36" long. What we ended up buying was one that has a adjustable wall that you can make the crate grow with your dog - it was PERFECT and we still use it today. The one we picked up is here - and trust me, it will seem huge at first... just use the wall to shrink it down and before you know it they'll need the whole thing!

I agree. Your best bet is to get the life stage crate (one wiht a extra piece to put in crate to adjust depth), it is so handy. This way you have a crate to fit pup with out being to big at first or having to keep buy 1 or 2 down the road to fit them while they grow up (which would suck becuase they not the cheepest things). For that style crate I would say go with 30"L x 21"W (minimum) or a 36"L x 24"W (which i have for adora, which is great being she loves to sleep streched out).

I'm picking up my pup so I'm in a similar situation. After doing lots of research I
decided on the Life Stages wire crates with the adjustable wall. My only issue is whether I should get the 30" or tw 36". Some people say the 30" is to small of your dog likes to strech out and some people say the 36" is too big. I think going to go for the 30". The Life Stages crates are nice though. My brother has one for his Aussie and they collapse down if you need to move them and a lot have a door on two sides which is nice

30-36 is what you're going to be looking for. The Midwest Life Stages will be perfect for you. We used the divider when we first brought him home (8 weeks). Now he pretty much sleeps in there comfortably (9 Months)

I would go for the bigger life stages crate 36" that way if your pup tends to be a bit bigger then normal he has the room he needs. Also if he ends up being a little smaller and you don't want to give him too much space you can just leave the divider in. Spending a few extra dollars now could save you from having to buy a whole new crate later if he ends up being a big pooch.
