Lately I have been driving back and forth to my parents house 5 hours from where I am living now. And I have been keeping Callie in a kennel in the car because I have never gotten around to getting a seat belt for her. I really am looking into getting one for her but I am not sure what exactly to look for. I have looked at the Ruff Rider (http://www.ruffrider.com/index.html) and I am wondering is it really worth $30-$40 or are there cheaper versions that are just as reliable. I figured I would just ask and see if people on here had any opinions on what they like/don't like.

I know there have been discussions like this before and I have read through them, but a lot of the links don't work anymore and I want other peoples thoughts.

We got one at PetSmart. I'm pretty sure it's the EasyRider harness here:

But they are only showing X-large as available.

I do like harnesses, for a lot of reasons, but you must be diligent about keeping it fitted properly (Jack lost some weight and got out of it in the car once; though he didn't try to go anywhere, it defeated the purpose of having it on.) And if your dog moves around a lot, they could get a bit tangled. Maddie got a bit stressed once when she managed to lock up the seatbelt and ended up with her nose in a corner, unable to get herself loose. Once she relaxed and laid down, the seatbelt released, but a panicky dog could have a problem.

Like I said, I like harnesses and with two dogs, it's our only real option. But for some situations and some dogs a crate can be better.
