If you know a good groomer, I would at least give it a try.
I've heard horror stories about pet store chain groomers but I've also heard good stories.
It all depends on the person that's doing the work. It's a hit and miss, kind of like finding a new hairstylist for yourself.
Good luck =)
You could do it yourself! Buying a grooming table and a good dryer will run you about the cost of four or five groomings, and you can absolutely get perfect results at home if you use the right products. A "bath and a blowout," which is what corgis get, is not exactly high grooming art, so you can get the same beautiful and fluffy look with minimal effort at home.
I would do it myself. I love the extra time with Kota. Like Joanna said, you can get the professional stuff for what you would pay someone to do it a few times. Kota doesn't mind bath time. So, for me it's time well spent to do it myself. That way I know what is getting put on him and that he gets rinsed enough and isn't mistreated in any way. Good luck with your decision. Hugs from me and Kota
We always groom Finn at home but At least once during the heavy shedding part of the summer and the winter I like to take Finnigan to the Groomer. No matter how much time I spend on him, he never looks quite as nice as when the groomer does it. When they groom him he doesn't shed at all for at least a couple weeks and he smells great for at least that long, plus his nails look much more professional than when I try to clip them.

I too have heard many reasons not to go to a chain such as Petsmart. I went to kudzu.com and looked at reviews for groomers in my area and chose one that is privately owned by two guys that everyone spoke very highly of. We were very happy with the service and Finn wasn't any more traumatized than he would be if we tried to blow dry him at home. He loved the people and doted on him. I think taking him to the groomers is nice every now and then.
