Hair Dryer
Just getting into grooming our dogs. Does any one have recommendation on a grooming table. I have looked at the Champagne Tables but am open to new ideas. I'm also looking for a dog hair dryer or something to use as a hair dryer but would like to avoid the $275 Kool pup dryer.

What's wrong with $15 dryers humans use...wind is wind, yes?
If they freak out because of noise, simply desensitize it by holding them close with praises and treats until they stop spazzing out.
I can't be missing something. I can't imagine spending $275 on a pup dryer- what does it do that's special?

the amount of wind? but im hoping that my wife's blow dryer is enough but very few people were using them at the show. i cant figure out what makes them so special.

There are some super powerful hair dryers for people... invest like $50~. I just think $275 is ridiculous, you're just paying premium for a pet product it seems.

Thanks, I'm going to find one of those. Even the best are far cheaper than anything dog specific.

First invest in some micro-fiber towels - for $10 at Costco, you can buy a huge bag of thick micro-fiber rags and sew them together, they're AMAZING at drying a dog. Old trick from my long-ago groomer days - wash the dog, let them shake if off (I've trained my dog to NOT shake untill we're outside - but we do RUN for the door!), then wrap them in the towel and just let it work for 10 mins. I just sit there and take a 'cookie' break - he gets cookies, I keep the towel on him. =) If you do NOT use a conditioner on the hair, it will be darn near dry after this - a clean coat repels water, a 'conditioned' one doesn't. That's why for showing (horses & dogs) the bathing is usually done a day or two ahead, so the coat 'de-fluffs & de-frizzes' and the natural shine returns. You could even sew up a crude 'dog-coat' out of the micro-fiber towel and just let them go nap it off. =)
I don't use a blow-dryer - the dog hates it, and doesn't usually have any pressing engagements to attend. =)

Interesting comment re. the conditioner. I'd be very careful about using any kind of cosmetic product on their coats, I might muck it up somehow. Dog fur is really important, and it's not just for looks.
Is baby shampoo OK for dogs?
I made the mistake of trying a simple bar soap once, I believe it was just a castile soap. It left the fur too sticky to comb; I had to re-bathe with the pet shampoo.

I don't know about the Baby shampoo. We use Oster Oatmeal shampoo. some whitening shampoo and Mane 'N tail conditioner on our girls.

A regular blow dryer should work just fine. If you are worried about the heat settings, most now come available with a cool setting feature - even the cheap models. Luna is already used to the noise of the hair dryer as I gradually worked with her to get used to the noise of it and that "wind" came out of it.
