How did you handle herding when your Corgi was a pup?

Bella has been home for a week and is doing great-- she learns so quickly, we've even gone three days with no accidents in the house! (She is 8.5 weeks.) The one thing we're having trouble with is herding, she is very persistent with the chasing and nipping our ankles, especially outside. If we ignore her, she'll grab on and start growling. Should I try to redirect her attention, or correct her somehow? How did you handle your baby herder?

Gibson is 8 months and he still does it every once and awhile..when he really wants to play and is hyper. What we did were either 1. stop where we were walking and not move again until he stopped/praise him when he stopped or 2. pick him up and get him to relax or 3. get his attention w/a treat or by saying his name so he has to look up at us instead of at our feet. #3 has probably worked best for me :)
Oh yes, this is a behavior that you wish to extinguish immediately. At this tender age chasing things are her level is so much fun. Try dragging a toy on a small cord and let her chase that. When she learns to like that toy incorporate tossing the toy for her. If she grabs at your pants take her off and redirect her with the toy. Much of this she will grow out of.
When Rolo starts this behavior all fun and play stops instantly. I just stand up, say "No Nip" once, then cross my arms and turn from him. When he stops, I praise him for "good no nip".

He doesn't like being ignored and to him this is the biggest punishment of all.

It wasn't easy!! It took a while (with him ragging at my ankles) before he got it, but eventually it settles in that you aren't playing back and the only way to get you to pay attention is to stop and behave. Now it's very rare I have to turn from him with crossed arms. Usually a warning of "No Nip" does the trick now.... unless of course he is REALLY wound up... then a time out might be in order until he calms down.
