I wish I didn't have to ask this.
I know some of you guys have to own cats. My puppy is still learning "no" and seems to have a fascination with the catbox. If I don't watch him every second, sometimes he wanders into the room where the box is digs in, chows down, and doesn't even bother to look guilty when I tell him "NO."
Any tips on how to limit his access to the poo? The door to the room is closed when I can (when the cats are outside) and I can't move it to another room. Otherwise, the door has to stay open, so he has access. He's also a smart little bugger and takes advantage to go in there for a snack between meals.
I don't know the best way to solve this situation without upsetting the cats, half blocking the door, or making my mother mad because my dog is changing her house.

Can you put it up higher so the cat can reach but your pup cant reach it, or can you get a covered litter box? There have been other discussions on this, so you are not alone!

It can't go higher, the room is the bathroom and counter space is limited. Can he still nose his way into covered pans? I had thought about that, but I don't know if our 12 year old cat would figure it out.

Another suggestion, at PetSmart they have these great litter boxes by Rubbermaid. They are very tall and have a cover on the top with a hole in the top for the cat to get in. The dogs are too short to get inside. I have them at our house and they are a godsend.

Make an obstacle course to the catbox. We used a baby gate. Must be easy enough for the cat but a discouragement to the dogs. We now have a covered litterbox, too, which might help.
You might try a covered catbox with the opening facing the wall, with enough space for the cat.
You just have to teach your corgi the etiquette of licking your person in the face: first, make sure there are no cat litter crumbs in your whiskers. Humans are funny that way.

Ah yes.....the dog's idea of a tootsie roll! Put up a baby gate in the doorway. Blocks the dog and yet, the cat can jump over the gate. If that is too high, just put up a piece of plywood, about 14 inches tall. Low enough for you to step over and the cat to jump over.

Glitter eater! Our old corgi mix used to love the cat box. We keep the litter box in the basement and had to put a gate up so she couldn't get to it. I like the plywood idea. You could even do some kind of makeshift gate using a decorative shutter. Luckily pups aren't that tall.

What about a one of those metal gates that is a walkthrough gate for you but has an opening for a smaller animal like a cat but too small for a corgi to get through? They sell those at Petsmart.

I also have to deal with a litterbox is limited space. We've got the litterbox in a closet and it's surrounded by one of those wire exercise pens, with only enough space that my cat can get through.

I have this gate: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755234 and it works wonders.
WARNING: Caleb is 25 pounds and can get through the "small animal opening" at the bottom, so if your corgi is little, he'll be able to get through. What I did was I left the small gate closed, and adjusted it so that one side of the gate is closer to the wall than the other (they have nifty adjustable bits on either side, they won't destroy your wall), and my cat sneaks through the larger side. I taught her to do it in about 10 minutes...I pretended I wanted her to stay on the other side, so she very quickly figured out how to get out. :-) It's great for the rest of us, because we can walk through the gate and don't have to step over it!

Wow thats amazing Caleb can get through that tiny opening!!! Once he grows he shouldnt be able to get through it...... : ) I looked at my gate and just can imagine a 25 pound corgi squeezing through there, then again Lance amazes me when he squeezes under the coffee table, looks painful, lol

My old dog princess used to come out of the cat box with some extra snacks, I dont see how good a peice of poop can taste for these guys. The other day we caught Wyatt in it at my moms house. I quickly told him no, thats gross, dont eat that. Yucky! Alot of dogs love the poop.
