Hello,

Have any of your corgis experienced diarrhea every month the day after being given monthly Interceptor?

D'Arby has, so I was going to call the Vet (finally) to ask them to change to Heartguard.

However, I have read that a lot of herding dogs are allergic to Ivermectin in Heartguard so I am reticent.

The diarrhea usually lasts only a day or so from Interceptor intake so do you think I should just contend with it? He is not lethargic, depressed or appear to have any neurological or skin allergy effects.

He is parasite free and is allergic to metronidazole, so I know a neurological effect when I see one.

Thank you all for your feedback!

Ivermectin is a problem with dogs with any sort of collie background, but purebred Corgis should not be a problem and I've given it at times. Corgis have a Spitz background, not a collie background.

I would not hesitate to switch if the interceptor is bothering him.

Thank you, Beth and Tomahawk and Fences!

I contacted D'Arby's breeder and his parents take Heartgard so my vet has switched him to that as of next month.

Hopefully this will not bother him.

Sorry, looks like I posted this thing in the completely wrong place!

Tomahawk used to be on Interceptor for about 6 months, but I had to change him to Heartguard plus since my vet stopped carrying Interceptor. He hasn't had any issues on Heartguard and seems to enjoy eating the chewable every month. If you have any hesitations you can always speak with your vet. I'm sure they will help you make the best decision for your dog.
