We found out yesterday Sammie has horrible allergies. So I was wondering if anyone had an experience with allergies and tried the Kirkland grain free. Any advice?

Kirkland Costco brand?  Is Sammie definitely allergic to grains?  Or you are not sure?  Is your current food from a single protein source?

If you know what Sammie is allergic to, then you can review the ingredients list on the back of Kirkland Costco brand.  There are also a bunch of other of grain free diets - my dogs are on the Wellness CORE diet.  Taste of the Wild has a few.   And there's Darwin's Pet that is great raw food but can be pricey and is also grain free.

No we aren't possitive what she has allergies to the vet said to try a couple things.... She it's pro plan right now and we have been putting fish oil on it for her allergies. But we tried wellness core and it was to high  of protein and made her sick... I'm limited on what I can get I live in such a small town.

Our first chewed open sores in her skin from the itching.  Lori did some research, hypothesized that it might be allergies, switched to a raw-meat diet, bingo.  We've been on it ever since (Darwin's).

We do supplement with Wellness kibble, which does contain barley.

We haven't had any experience with the Kirkland food, but plenty with allergies in general.

Allergies are pretty tricky to diagnose.  I assume your vet has ruled out contact allergies and flea bite allergies and said try something grain-free first, and then maybe try switching to a single meat protein source?  And then if those don't work the next step would be to do the official 10-week elimination diet with prescription food, and if that shows nothing you would test for environmental allergies.....

If you are just trying a couple foods and local options are limited, maybe the thing to do is order the smallest bag of something off Amazon.  If grain-free works out you can then see if the Kirkland grain-free also suits your dog.  Yah, you might have to pay shipping the first time but it does expand your options a lot and you can find a more practical/economical way to source a grain-free or limited ingredient food once you've decided that's your solution.

In some ways, I wish I'd skipped straight to the prescription diet food trial instead of trying a bunch of different foods.  Had we not spent 6 months trying different foods, we might already know whether his allergy shots are working (we have another 5 months before we know) and maybe his cone of shame year would be over already.

A coworker uses Kirkland grain free salmon &potatoe, her dog also has bad allergies, she says things have been fine on this food,I also give my dogs grain free salmon and potatoe(I stay away from chicken too.),not Kirkland, but basically the same.My Abbie has a very sensitive stomache, she never went at her food the way she does now, both her and Benson love it,their coats are beautiful now too!
