My poor Winston got loose on Sunday and got into the woods near our house.  I didn't think about ticks at the time when we found him.  Today when I was petting him I found some bumps and when I looked closer I realized they were dead ticks.  After a quick check all over him, I noticed he was probably bit 20 times or more!!  He just had his K9 Advantix II put on the day he got loose.  I'm freaking out, because I'm afraid of Lyme or other diseases.  They all looked dead, but I don't know if that means anything.  Any thoughts?

They were probably dead bc the Advantix killed them. If you're truly worried, take him to the vet.

I don't know a whole lot about ticks, but ewwwwww, I hate them!!  I had to pull one off my daughter this spring...soooo gross!!!

Hope your pup is ok.

Take him to the vet, with the ticks in a zip lock bag, make sure you wear gloves.

Before this event and the new Anvantix, how long was it from the previous dose?  Its supposed to be good for a month.  It usually takes 24 hours from when a tick is attached to when its possible to pass disease, but I don't know if I believe it.  Also, my vet told me last week it takes about a week for any disease to show on the test (make sure it would be the 4DX test)...so you can do one of two things....have the dr put him on the Doxy now and then you won't have to worry...OR...wait and see if he gets sick and/or has a positive test.  Honestly, I would just put him on the Doxy now cause once they getany tick disease they can be really sick and carry side effects with them for a long time.  My lab got Lymes when he was 6 months old....the day he died at almost 13 he still carried a faint positive Lymes AND had a life time side effect of weak hip and thich muscles that would shake.  I feel like I am a pro at tick diseases, we have had Lymes, Rocky Mt Spotted, Ehrlichiosis and now recently Anaplasmosis...I used Frontline til this year when Advantix2 was found better and they are checked all the time.  Guess my farm is a breeding ground for ticks...YUCK!!!

Good Luck Winston!  And stay out of the woods so your mommy doesn't have to worry about you!!!!

I recently had a dr tell me that that Lyme disease is not a worry until the tick has been attached for 36 hours or more.
