Queen's Corgi, Monty, who was known as the star and highlight of the Olympic opening ceremony has passed away at the age of 13.  Monty was also Queen mom's corgi before she passed away.  It must be doubly hard for Queen Elizabeth to lose Monty.  Monty left behind two other Corgis, Willow and Holly, to keep the Queen company.

See here for details.

Here is the still picture of Monty from the Olympic Video:

Belroyd the Red Grouse is Maddie's great great grandfather on the dam's side, which makes him Jack's great great great grandfather (also on the dam's side; Maddie is a 3/4 sister to Jack's dam).

So I guess they are distantly related.  Jack also has Belroyd on the top, but different dogs.

It's a small Corgi world.  I've heard it said that most purebred dogs are the genetic equivalent of cousins, and it sounds like the case here....  The Red Grouse is the grandsire of Caralon's Casper at Gaylord, who seems to be in many US show pedigrees and so his influence is widespread here.   Love the Belroyd head.  Jack's got it, Maddie does not.

what a beautiful dog. I am so sorry that he has passed; he must have lived an amazing life.

Awww, I heard this today altho they said 2 of them died.....RIP Monty up at the Rainbow Bridge!  In the Queens/Royals entourage of Corgis, weren't there like 30 at one time???Seems to me I remember hearing that many years ago when I got my first Corgi, Angel Emma Anne.  I did love that video of the Corgis for the Opening Ceremonies since the rest of it was rather strange...
