My corgi girl is 7 months old with all the energy to go with! She plays well with other dogs and has made my dad's German Wirehaired Pointer her best friend from the day I brought her home.

I want to get another dog so she's got a buddy when we're gone and when she can't play with Ruby too. I also think if she were to live with another dog she would also learn so dog-on-dog manners too.

I've got my heart set on another German Shepherd. I've grown up with them, but where i was living before i could not have one, thus Dixie! Now i live on a fully fenced acre and can accomodate a bigger dog AND Dixie. Does anyone have any thoughts on adding another puppy to an "only-dog-for-7-months" household?

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle, I know you're not getting another corgi, but this will also apply, it's in the FAQ.
If your girl is well socialized, she'll probably adapt just fine to another dog, since she's quite young.  Personally I would wait til the first was around a year to a year-and-a-half before considering adding a second;  she will start forgetting everything you trained her quite soon as she hits adolescence, and around the one year mark is when you can really work on training.  Tough for many to do with a new pup in the house.

I would wait until she's a bit older to add a second dog. IMO it's so much easier to train a puppy if you have a well behaved adult dog for them to model after. Henry was just over a year old when we got Luke and I wouldn't go much younger than that personally.

thank you all for your opinions. she's my first corgi (like i said i grew up with GSD's) so it's a HUGE difference. I was planning on waiting until she was older so i'm glad that some of you reiterated that's a good choice :]
