very similar day 1 experiences. Scout had already been promised to someone else, who had to pass. so he was the one and only not spoken for. he was almost 14 weeks when I got him.
things are looking up with Scout. Daytime crate training is going better! I can leave for an hour and a half now! A few issues still remain. Eating poop, playing in it... . everyone says it is because he was with just puppies for so long. he is learning to play more!!! Starting small group puppy classes next week. It will be good socialization for both of us.

Bunny,
Losing, I believe, your 14 yr. old Corgi and getting a poop-eating puppy (which, gross as it sounds, turns out to be common) can be pretty upsetting. There are products at pet stores (which you may already know) to sprinkle in Scout's food to discourage this behavior. Yet, we've had Corgis that we couldn't correct––and learned to love in spite of this nasty habit. We blamed this behavior on all kinds of stuff, esp. puppy boredom left too long in an unclean area. But, Tim is so meticulous and watches his pups like a mother hen, that I realize none of our suppositions were correct. Lucy came from 3 litters and Tim's puppy areas were cleaner than my kitchen floor. Lucy has never eaten poo. I have read that it could be a vitamin deficiency, yet I almost think it's genetic. But, what do I know. I do know that this behavior can turn you off to your puppy, esp. if your puppy is following a 14-yr old beloved corgi. Call or email me if you want to talk. I sometimes had some issues accepting a new puppy, but not for too long...
Anna, have you tried adding pumpkin or pineapple to his food? I have a 7 year old French Brittany that has had this same "nasty" habit on & off his entire life....once I started adding pumpkin or pineapple to his food it stopped. My understanding is that the addition of one of these two foods to their meals makes their stool unappealing to them. It couldn't hurt to try.....
I have use a product called "Nasty Habit" and it works like a charm. It's a liver flavored tablet that you can add to the kibble or my dog will eat it plain, as a treat.
Yes, we have Newman from Tim Mathesion.  His official name CH Nebriowa Special Agent.  He is absolutely the love of our life.  Where do you live?  I'm so happy for you and your new corgi.  Looking forward to years of enjoyment with your new family member.  They are the BEST!   Janet
Janet : do you know his sire and dam?? I am waiting and hoping for a puppy bitch from Tim:))) paws crossed:)))))

Hello Shelley,  Yes his father (Sire) is CH Nebriowa Chief Detective and his Mother (Dam) is Nebriowa All That Glitters  Grandparents : CH Nebriowa Double Stitch and CH Nebriown Front and Center.........  Hope this helps.   Newman was diagnosed with Lymphona Cancer this week and we are a mess at our house.  He is truly the BEST, so loving....... four legged child parents could ever have.  Have you or anyone you know had any experience with this type of cancer?  We are talking with the oncologist about treatments.  Found a lump on his throat and when to the Vet Monday to have it checked and received the shock of our life.........  he seems so healthy and does not show any signs of being sick. I hope you get your puppy from Tim. I'm very grateful we froze Newman's semem.  At least I can have one of his offsprings.   I love the paws crossed :)  So Cute.  Janet

I worked at a specialty hospital for a few years and lymphoma can be a very scary thing. The good news is, sometimes it can be treated, and seem to go away. We had clients who's dogs would start on one day a week chemotherapy and then were able to spread it to one and month, then a check up every 6 months. Some patients do REALLY well and can live for YEARS after a lymphoma diagnosis. It just depends on the stage of the cancer and how much it has spread. Maybe since he is showing no symptoms, it hasn't progressed to far and you guys can treat it aggressively from the start and have several years of happy healthy corgi. In my experience, it seemed lymphoma was much more devastating in cats, and they tended to go downhill very quickly, but the dogs seemed to hang in there for much longer. Also, chemo isn't as bad in dogs as it is in humans, in some cases you will see no symptoms from the treatment at all. So don't give up hope just yet!!!
A neighbor's dog has lymphoma.  He happens to live next door to his canine oncologist.  The dog's been doing well for a long time now.  My best hopes for you.
Janet, I am so sorry to read about Newman's diagnosis. It hits even closer to home now that I dusted off Lucy's pedigree and see that Newman is family. I don't have any experience with lymphoma, but I read some comments by members that that sounded optimistic. We'll be sending all good thoughts your way.

I can look at Lucy's picture and see so much of Newman in her.  I will try to get a picture up soon.  We are so excited to hear from "family".  When you don't feel good there is nothing as comforting as "family".  How long have you had Lucy?  You are so sweet to reach out to Newman.   Newman was diagnosed with Lymphona Cancer on Monday, February 14 and only one week before our 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier had a tumor on his side which was also diagnosed as cancer.  Totally different type of cancer.  Jackson, (Jack Russell) had surgery on February 8.  I have never had a dog to have cancer and to have both our boys diagnosed within 10 days of each other in unbelievable.  Totally heartbroken.   Thanks again for your kindness.  Mr. Newman and Janet
