Persistent Pupillary Membranes

Can only a veterinary ophthalmologist detect this? Shippo's pupils look kinda weird and I kinda suspect PPM but I can't find any pictures on the 'net that look like his so it's either there haven't been any pictures taken or it's just the way his pupils are. I'm thinking about calling the vet to see if he can detect this before I make an appointment to take him to Iowa State University which is the closest ophthalmologist and is 3 1/2 hours away :\

His irises look weird I mean, not his pupils.

I'm not sure what this is...have never heard about it. I live in Marion (right outside of Cedar Rapids). My brother lives in Iowa City and had some issue with his dog and his eyes, and ended up taking him to Ames, so I'm pretty confident there isn't one in this area. If it has to do with the eyes, I'd want the best doctor available--which is the vet school. I've had to take two of my dogs there, and they have always been wonderful.
