They are absolutely adorable! I've got Cardi's, so docking isn't an issue..... But, if I had my druthers, I'd rather have my dogs 'come as you are'. Be it corgi or doberman or whatever, the whole docking thing just sort of gets my goat. NOT that I don't love bunny butts!

I have always loved the bunny butts, but after having Calvin, who is a Cardi, I can't imagine NOT wanting to keep the tails. They are so cute, and so telling of the dogs moods and feelings. Of course, I think that corgis are sweet ANY way they come. Those pictures are cute!! Those little tails!

You are so right on, Joanna. Sidney (my pem with a tail) wags that tail of his when we come home...he comes running to us with ears back and tail going furiously...I love it! Then he rolls over in front of us for a belly rub. Ah, perfect!

I was told (true or not) docking was needed to insure the tail does not get broken or the like because they tend to be weak in structure. Mine are docked but either way would be fine with me as long as there is no health risk.

That's the reason I've heard when they are cattle herding, but my corgi has only herded twice, just for fun. And they were sheep.
Cardis have even longer tails, are herders too, and they are not docked. I don't understand why Pems were/are docked and not cardis.

I read that the reason that they would dock Pems tails (aside from them easily getting stepped on and broken), was because in that region, if you had a dog with a tail, you'd get taxed on it. Essentially this was a luxury tax, because if you could afford to keep a non-working dog as a pet (which most folks wouldn't, because it was another mouth to feed), you could therefore afford to pay taxes on them. So docking became a loophole of sorts. I suppose because of that, folks tried to start breeding the tail out, which is why some might be born stubby, but I don't think this is the dominant trait from some snippets I've picked up. I love the tails because they make a Pem look like a short German Sheperd (c:
