I have been debating changing Becca's food. Currently she is eating TOTW and Honest Kitchen. She isn't all that fond of it suddenly. I have to stir the empty cat food spoon through her kibble before she will eat it. I've read the food poll post. The recent recalls have made me rethink my options. I love EVO for my cat, but all of the dog formulas are high in protein. Becca is 10 months now, does she always need to be on low protein, or just until she stops growing? Right now I'm debating between Blue Buffalo, California Natural and the EVO. EVO seems to have the best ratings, but has the high protein. I am open to suggestions and opinions if you have any.

We just startig giving Effie Castor and Pollux Organix... I love it, she loves it and the reviews are phenomenal. It's also not super high in protein, so it's a good choice for corgi's. ALSO it isn't terribly expensive like some of the top-rated kibbles.

Did she start not wanting to eat before or after you added the cat food? I'm guessing she has just learned that if she waits to eat she will get a yummy treat with her food. I'd just put her food down give her 15-20 min to eat and then pick it up. If she doesnt' eat, she doesn't get dinner. Also, how old is the bag? Sometimes if you are near the end of the bag it starts getting stale and they don't want it. Franklin didn't like Blue Buffalo, he was on it for a while but never really liked it much and finally just quit eating all together for 3 days so I put him on TOTW. I personally wouldn't feed EVO just because it is so high protein. Dogs don't need to have that much protein and I feel like you are just paying a ton of money for a fad that isn't backed with science or any research at all.

Even the folks who are into high protein want to keep puppies, Corgi puppies and large breed puppies especially, on lower protein until they are done growing.  You want them to grow slowly so that everything grows evenly - bones, muscles, connective tissue, etc.  Slow, steady growth is strong growth.

I agree with Melissa - do you leave the food out until she's done, or do you pick it up after 15 minutes?  Skipping a couple meals isn't going to hurt her, and she will definitely eat once she's hungry.  :)

Mishka got Blue Buffalo for a while as a puppy and did well on it.  Once the vet clears him to go off his prescription kibble I was thinking of going with Acana - it's made in the same plant as Orijen (I think they are the only two brands made there), but has more regular protein levels.

I second Acana. Sheldon (15 months) is on Acana Pacifica which is around 33% protein, lower than Orijen but higher than Fromm's grain free line. After being on Acana for a month, our vet ran his blood work and told me his urea levels were a bit higher but still within the normal range. I'm hopeful this brand will work out for him because

a) it's Canadian, so is he

b) the plant manufactures only Acana and Orijen, nothing else and

c) he's finally calmed down  after being a antsy tyrant for months
