Well, the rain is back here in No. CA and Tasha hasn't done a potty run since before bed last night, 12 hours ago.

How have others handled this.  We have a small area just off the patio that is covered by tree foliage and I showed it to her, but she isn't interested. She won't go off the covered patio.

I wonder will she ever get used to the rain?  She is, by the way, 8 mos. old today, Nov. 7th

Rosie won't go in the rain either, which is a problem since we live in Oregon. It may sound crazy, but I hold an umbrella over Rosie so she doesn't get wet. It took a little while for her to learn to stay under the umberalla, but she has the hang of it now. She'll 'do her business' as long as she isn't getting rained on. Now all I need is another umbrella so I don't get wet when I take her out. =)
Mary: This may sound funny but they DO make hats for us humans to wear that have an umbrella top. It protects your head and hair only though. Your reply was funny to me because this morning my dh repeated a story from his childhood about rain and dogs. When he was little, the lady next door in base housing in Pensacola had a little poodle and she did what you do. He used to laugh at her, but now I'm gonna tell him to dig out his big golf umbrella. Perhaps IT will cover Tasha AND her escort.
Hi LouAnne, the best thing you can do is invest in a good quality rain coat, cheap PVC does its job, but it gets sweaty and sticks to your skin. My personal favourite is a gore-tex jacket, worth every penny. The last thing you want is holding a big umbrella in windy rain situation, squatting down trying to pick up poop, yet Tasha pulling you in the other direction :)
Yup, I agree with Sam. I live in Naples, Fl and believe me we get our shrare of rain, wind, thunder and lightning. With both Soffie and Griffyn, I had to "bite the bullet" and stand out in the pouring rain with them, acting like it was no different than when it is beautiful and sunny outside. Once, while I was out with Soffie, a crack of lightning hit so close I wanted to run back inside!!! It took everything in me to try to act like "la de da.... no big deal"!!! Thankfully she peed right away after that and we headed for the door and safety. Now I do admit, that had I realized the storm was that close, I would have waited. But, on the flip side.... after that moment Soffie has never been nervous about rain, or thunder.

It only took a couple times of standing out in the pouring rain for each of them to realize as soon as they "took care of business" they got to run back in. As with all training exercises it's a test of will and patience..... Do we have the patience, to outlast their will??
Usually we try to be aware of the weather and get out and potty before anything too bad hits. Addy doesn't mind a little rain, though the thunder bothers her (and the lightning bothers me), so when there are signs of a storm we run out and make sure everything is taken care of. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say.

If we miss it, however, we usually just wait it out or go out at various points when it's let up a little. Addy has pretty good bladder control (though I don't like to make her uncomfortable). You could, of course, go the route of paper traning - but I personally find that terribly disgusting.
hi Louanne:) i know what you are going through. a few months back teddy would absolutely refuse to go but i am a very stubborn person. some days i would stand out in the rain or 2hours and 35mins. teddys thing is he will pee right away but wouldnt go poop. after that he learned the faster i go the faster i get inside. i would put on what Sam suggested with umbrella and let her know that once u go, u go inside. i did this with teddy and it can be thundering out, lighting, windy, pouring. he will go because he knows that if he dosnt we will be standing out there and dosnt come in until he goes:)

they do make umbrellas for dogs that attach to the leach, i have seen them at petco
Just git out there and do it. That dog has a coat that'll shed snow, rain, mud. Hooded goretex parka (I'll not wear out my good raingear on dogwalks, so get a good El Cheapo at the thrift store); dedicated dogwalk fanny pack; headlamp dogpoop pick-upper; I've a boot brush bolted to the sidewalk by each door; dog towels hung up on quick-dry hooks; most important, teach "Wipe Your Feet" as a standard command -- on this, they wait until I've wiped and dried them off (if I'm thorough, I wipe of at least 10% of the water and dirt...).
Also, I use an old climber's sling over my shoulder with the leashes on a carabiner, so I can drop the leashes and have hands-free occasionally.
