Puppy not happy to see me when I come back from vacation

Hello! I left for vacation last Wednesday and came back today (Sunday). My corgi puppy (a little over 4 months old) stayed with my parents. When I came home I called her and she ran to me, but wouldn't give me any kisses and didn't seem all that excited. She did get hyper and played "keep away" when I wanted to pick her up and hug her (sometimes when we try to pick her up she'll run away and run back within arms reach and run away again and so on and so forth. She usually does this when she's very playful) but other than that she doesn't seem to care that I'm home. We go to my boyfriend's house on weekends usually and when she sees him she gets so excited and can't stop licking him but when I come home after being gone 4 days she doesn't show that enthusiasm. Is she mad at me for leaving? (or is my boyfriend just her favorite, heh.)

Good afternoon Holly!  My female corgi prefers men, too.  Tasha's little nub will go tick, tick, tick for me; but if my brothers come to visit, that nub will whirl.  Please don't be discouraged.  While four days away might seem a short stretch for us; your young pup was adjusting from your absence, being with your parents, your return, your excitement and joy at reunion.... quite a lot for your youngster!   Glad you are home safe and sound!  All the best from Williamsburg, VA:  Nan, Bear, Tasha and Linus

It takes my dogs a little while to get over being left behind. They may be indifferent, or cling to a different person for several days. They always get over it. It sounds like seeing your boyfriend with a week-long gap is the pattern the pup is used to, so it doesn't disrupt her the way your unusual absence did. Don't worry, she's still your baby :)

My Grandma used to give me ice cream for breakfast when I visited her. She also coached me to say that we had eggs and oatmeal. I just went on vacation too. The corgis came back a few pounds heavier. Grandparents have all the fun. :)

Maybe she is a little miffed at you?  I have gotten the cold shoulder from Twinkie more that once when I have come home from a trip.  I always feel like she is saying, "I missed you, you broke my heart, I am over you now."  Its all better once I have home for a bit.

Ahh, I love the name Twinkie.  We were going to name ours Twinkie 10 1/2 years ago but somehow we ended up deciding on Winston, but we called him Winnie.  Winnie . . . . . Twinkie . . . . . they have a similar ring, don't they ?  : )

We used to call it "Spa Grandma" when our first dog would stay with my mother-in-law and her sister. They would give her chicken, cheese, tons of treats, etc. and she'd have forgotten all of her commands by the time we got home. She'd sometimes be excited to see us, but often would jump up onto the couch to sit in MIL's or her sister's lap. She'd come around after we got back to our own house.
