Question about jumping greeting behavior--with everyone else but me

Hello Everyone,

This is not a question about a big problem, just a question out of curiosity.  Although my 15 month old corgi, Stella, has gotten better with not jumping on people when she greets them, she still needs to be "reminded" about it when people come over.  Something I've noticed though is that she NEVER jumps on me to greet me when I return home.  Even when I've been gone for an extended period of time, she never jumps, she just wriggles around a little and I pet her and sometimes she just lays on her back for me to pet her.  With everyone else that comes over she jumps, though, and needs to be corrected.  Does anyone else's corgi behave this way?  Can anyone tell me why?

Thanks,

Nicole

Yes, mine do! Jack never jumps on me unless he's upset, and Maddie very rarely jumps on me. And I can tell you why mine do: because other people randomly reward them for the behavior by saying "It's ok" and petting them and/or giving treats, while I always correct and never reward the behavior.

I have gotten stricter with telling people in no uncertain terms "Please ask him to sit!" It's a common problem with short dogs, as people find them easier to pet when they are up on their hind legs.
Hi Nicole, because they know they can get away with certain things with different adults :) Just like human kids.

The excitement from the visitors and their tone / reaction also feeds your dogs too.
Yup, I have found too that it is more difficult to get the people we encounter on our walks on board with us. I don't know why we humans feel that we should say "it's ok" when someone elses dog jumps on us, when clearly it's not! Now what I try to do when I see that we're going to meet up with someone is get Soffie and Griffyn to sit before whoever it is we're meeting approaches And I ask them to reinforce the sit command before petting either one. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't, but it's a work in progress and we'll keep enforcing it.
