I'm wondering what you all give your pups to satisfy their unquenchable need to chew.  Jeli is 6 months now.  I've been giving her Himalyan Chews.  I call them Yak bones.  They are made of Yak milk and lime and salt, I think.   They seem pretty safe, but she will knaw through a big one in about 4 days.  They are kind of expensive, so I'd like to find another alternative.  I've tried getting her interested in nyla bones.  I even drilled little holes in one and squished peanut butter in them, but she doesn't really go for it.  My previous corgi would knaw on those for hours.  I also smear canned cheese on antlers, and she licks the cheese off, but then is done with that.  I have those sterilized bones that I stuff with yogurt and freeze.  She licks the yogurt out but doesn't chew on the bone.  Any ideas for a safe chew alternative?  Or someway to make the nylabone more inviting?

I do a mix of yeti chew (himalayan), knee caps, bully sticks, and antlers. Ein gets no to her types of chews. She doesn't like, and neither do I. I prefer natural chews over raw hides and flavored plastic. Ein loves the knee caps best. They are a softer bone, and very good for them. The bonus is that they are cheap as well! I get 1 knee cap for 2$ and it lasts her agood while. When it's white and there's no interest I get her a new one. I hope this helps GL!

Have you tried the antlers that are cut in half to expose the marrow? We use those for everyday, leave out all the time chews. Then they usually get one cow ear for a treat at night. I buy them from bestbullysticks.com and I think they amount to less than 50 cents each if you buy a big pack.

I use the bully sticks and antlers too.  Just found out about the Himalayan chews and I am going to try those also.  Foxy is almost 10 months old and wanted nothing to do with the nylabones at first and in the past couple weeks that has become one of her favorite chews, maybe with time her interest will change.  I also have a kong I stuff with peanut butter or pumpkin and freeze and she really like that.

I just want to point out that not all dogs have the same need to chew beyond the teething stage.  I've had dogs that were never inclined to chew anything and some that were hard chewers into advanced age.  It is not a requirement for all dogs.....

Jeff is over a year now and still has the constant need to chew. They don't last as long as you may want, but long carrots are a good alternative. Jeff never gets sick of those! Otherwise bully sticks or rib bones (from the pet store, not ones from home). Also those sweet potato "rawhides" are good, but again do not last more than 20 minutes or so.

Nylabones are the #1 cause of broken teeth in dogs so you are better off with her not chewing them. they make a softer rubbery one that is actually beef or chicken flavored that she may like better. Look on amazon for good deals on Himalayan chews.

You can try raw knuckle bones from the grocery store, they are usually sold as soup bones and have a lot of yummy flavor. I usually have them in the freezer, thaw them with hot water and give them to Franklin on a towel. He has learned to chew only on the towel so it keeps it clean. He loves them. He won't chew antlers, himalayan chews, or any of those kind of things

Thanks for all the advise guys.  I think I'll try that knee cap bone.  I've done a little bit of research and they seem pretty safe, supervised of course.  And they cost a lot less than the Himalayan chews!

Ein loves her knee caps!
