My corgi seems to have many skin irrations. She reacts badly to flea bites and ant bites. She also has bad problems with bacterial infections from lying in the dirt. Now since the weather is cooler she stays outside more than usual and she seems to have dry flakey skin. Does anyone have this same problem and do you have any suggestions that can help???

The first thing I always ask is what are you feeding her? A lot of dogs have food allergies which can manifest as skin problems.
We give her Natures Receipe healthy skin formula in dry food and the same brand in moist for healthy skin. Someone in Petsmart told me that chicken is one of the worst ingredients to give them in dog food. Have you heard of that?
I don't think there's anything wrong with chicken, unless it's "chicken by-product" which is all the gross nasty parts that you really don't want. I could only find a venison and a vegetarian healthy skin formula on the Nature's Recipe website, is yours chicken based? If she's always been on that food it might be worth a try to switch her to another brand/protein type and see if there is any improvement.

You could also try wiping her down with an unscented, hypo-allergenic baby wipe when she comes in from outside. If it's some type of outdoor allergy it might help her some. Have you asked your vet about her skin problems?
I've talked to the vet and he said the only way we could find out about her allergies is an allergy test which is about $250. As for her food this is the third brand we've tried. I really think the allergies are from something outside. We've noticed when she spends a lot of time outside she comes in itchy as heck. I will try the baby wipes...haven't thought of that one....thanks!
Corn or other grains would be one of the usual suspects.
Yes we were told that as well. I'm thinking we'll have to do the allergy test to pin point the problem. She gets so miserable from the scratching.
Oh yeah she has the same problem with fleas. Sophie also has a problem with ant bites. One time I took her to the vets because she had little pimples all over her stomach and she even had some of her privates! He told me that it was ant bites. He gave her an allergy shot and told me to give her benadryl when the itching got real bad. We bought a all natural bug spray sold in this holistic store by the house. It helps some, but she still gets bit. I think its that sweet blood she has...lol
