Grady should certainly be on a puppy food or even an adult food but not a weight control food. Wellness is a good brand. We tried it as an adult food (Super5Mix Chicken) but Finn had an intolerance to something in it (possibly the chicken) so we had to switch. We fed Blue Buffalo puppy food before that which is very similar. He did great on it. We now feed Natural Balance adult food and love it. Remember Grady does not need to be on puppy food past 6 months.

but the three vets I work under recommend keeping puppies on puppy food til their at least a year old.

Many people who are not very familiar with Corgis will treat them as a small or medium breed dog which could be on puppy food until one year, but Corgis actually grow more like a large breed. People who know Corgis will tell you that they should be on adult food at 6 months and some will say that they never really need to be on puppy food. I had switched Finn to adult food according to this.

Here's what one Cardigan breeder states:

"I do not advocate feeding Cardigans puppy food only beyond the age of four months. From 4-6 months, they should be fed a mix of puppy and adult kibble. After six months, they should be on an adult-only food. Despite their short stature, Cardigans have large and fast-growing bones, and the high protein found in puppy food, when fed for too long, may cause them to grow too fast and develop growth-plate problems. Calcium supplements in pill or powder form are also not recommended for the same reason. Calcium supplementation should come only from yogurt and cottage cheese–and with fat, not non-fat."

So then if I switch Grade to an adult formula, obviously it just needs to be just a regular adult and not a weight management formula, since he still is growing. Right? Ugh.....this is so confusing!!!!

Right, he could be on adult food or an all life stage food, or a puppy food (until 6 months) but there is not reason to feed a weight management food.

I actually just replied to another post about wellness but I'll recommend it def. My pups have been on the Core for a while and both love it/are healthy.

If your pups aren't super active (normal corgi style) then I would go Wellness.

wellness is a great brand. i feed it to all my animal and wow! talk about shiny/soft coat and bright eyes:) they love the food and they dont have to eat as much as some brands. they have alot to choose from (if allergies emerge) the ingrediants in this brand are high qaulity as well. i have not been more happier with another brand:) just make sure u switch slowly, i maid the mistake of going to fast

Hands down my favorite dog food is Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance. It comes in several different flavors. Duck and sweet potato is the one all our dogs are on. We have a 4 yr old english setter, my 11/2 yr old corgi and a 2 yr old bichon poodle mix. No problems at all and it cleared up the corgis skin issues. When you first swithc to it you will notice softer stools for about 2 mos. then its fine. All the dogs like it and i just found out from a friend who recieved a seeing eye dog, that the facility that bred her dog just switched over to the Natural Balance and recommends it to all people with whom the dogs are placed. many dogs have allergys or reactions to common grains, corn oats etc. so tehy use non typical quality ingrediants.
