I read somewhere... And I can't find it... Information on what breeders test for in their dogs. If you know, let me know. I was just wondering. Thanks. Hugs from me & Kota.

von willibrands, hip dysplasia (OFA), spinal myelopathy (DNA test), eyes (CERF). can do elbows. Deb Peterson
Varies very widely by breed and often inside the breed as well. If you're talking about corgis it's not as clear-cut a picture as it is in some other breeds. I think in Pems just about everybody seems to do OFA on hips; in Cardis it's more common to x-ray hips but not send them in for evals. The DM test is by no means done by all good breeders; it's something that a lot of people are trying to figure out. PRA (either a direct DNA test or clearing dogs through pedigree) is common/expected in Cardigans. Many breeders also CERF. Pem breeders can do elbows; very few Cardi breeders do. Von Willebrands is Pem-specific; I don't know any Cardi breeders that do it.

In Danes (my first breed) you did hips (OFA or PennHIP), heart (echocardiogram), thyroid (OFA), eyes (CERF).
I look at ACL history now because I had an issue with that in my first corgi. (it ran in his family to...)
