ok spikes disapeared yesterday and almost got picked up by the dog pound, he was returned to us last night but he took off again all day today and luckily a my boyfriends mom found him and brought him home. Once inside he started to relax but started to whine too, his stomach seemed really full and i notice a little bump on his lower tummy. it moved when i touched it like it was loose at the surface. Poor little guy whined alot but got up and walked around when i took him outside and even played. my boyfriend thinks he might have found somthing bad to eat and ate too much of it... im not sure what to think of it. we dont have a vet in town and dont really have a way to get to one for about a week at most...im really worried.

I don't want to sound mean...but how is he getting away from you so much? Is he not on a leash or in a fenced area?

I would find a way to take him in asap. I am not a vet but it sounds to me like he could have a hernia or other internal injuries. I don't think a dog would have a lump that moves around just from eating something he shouldn't have...
If he seems painful and has a lump and his tummy seems swollen, he should be brought to a vet ASAP. For two reasons, 1) he was out running around and may have been hit by a car and experiencing internal injuries (look at his gums, are they nice and pink?) or 2) he could have gotten into ANYTHING, including rat bait, snail bait, antifreeze, etc so its better safe then sorry. Especially if he has been out wandering for two days.

And last of all, you REALLY REALLY need to find a way to secure your yard. I can't tell you how many dogs have been brought into my vet after being hit by a car or attacked by larger dogs. If you can't secure your yard he needs to stay inside. Its not worth the risk to let him out in a yard that you know he can escape from.
