I was at Les Schwab getting a flat repair, sitting around with the other customers. An employee came out and asked a customer, an old dude, to remove his dog from his car. The oldy went and came back, tied his chocolate lab up outside, and came back in. The lab wore a green plaid.. jacket.. vest thing.. but it was raining outside!! I said with sympathy, "I'm not allergic you can bring it in here!" The geezer said, "Ah no she can handle it" or something.
In a moment, he asked, "What kind do you have?"
I said, "A pembroke corgi."
He said, "The queen's dog! What'd you name it?"
I said, "Eddy."
He asked, "Named after an ex-boyfriend?"
I laughed! And said no. He went on, "Yep, Magdalen's named after an ex-girlfriend." I looked at the chocolate lab outside.

Weird!! Naming "after an ex"? but the old guy insisted that's where you get the best pet names from. What does your corgi's name mean to you? Or maybe what is the actual name/meaning/origin?

I got Kota's name from the movie Brother Bear. I cried at that movie. Was sad. I liked the name. And was a good movie.
Sidney came to us with his name already in place. So did Bruce, and Chester too. I guess this is common when you rescue older dogs (though Sid was a young pup at 5 months when we got him). In fact, the only pet we have been able to name ourselves is our cat Pippin; we gave him this name because we enjoy Lord of the Rings and Pippin is our favorite Hobbit.

Here is a thread where we have already discussed our corgi's names. Get comfortable, it has almost 300 replies!

Thanks for the link. Lots of fun names and comments! I have to admit sometimes my nicknames for them are Dum and Dummer. Sorry but they know why!

I love the name Pippin. I always thought it would be a cute Corgi name. :)
We had both names decided before we got each of our furkids. "Soffie" came to me one morning as I was blow drying my hair. And we decided on "Griffyn" after a friend of my sisters gave birth to a little boy (human) and named him Griffin. In both cases I thought the name was suited to our soon to be Pembroke Welsh Corgi kids. We, of course, gave our own alternate spelling to give them their individuality!
That is funny! I am named after an ex-girlfriend of my fathers! Ha Ha! My husband and I take turns naming and he is a huge MSU basketball fan. I am too but not to the extent he is. Sparty is named after the college mascot and Izzy is named after Tom Izzo the b-ball coach. There was a sweet little Buffy in between but she passed away too soon. My names come to me when I see them but I usually have a few in mind. Our cats are Cheech and Chong but they are rescues and came with the names.
Edward means "happy guardian", perfect loyal dog name. And Eddy is named after my favorite Stephen King character, Eddie Dean.
LOVE the Gunslinger series! Almost 4000 pages all in all and I still did not want it to end.
I loved that series too! Wish he would do more of them.
Did you know that Stephen King has owned at least a couple of corgis, Frodo and Marlowe, and that Oy (from the gunslinger series) was designed after a corgi?
I knew he had corgis, but Oy is based on corgi? The billy-bumbler, heehee.
Yup...can you see the resemblance now?
