First off apologies if this has been Discussed before! If anyone has a link pls post thanks!

What I want to know is when can I give my little guy a rawhide chew stick? He's just turned 3months and yeah has been chewing the door stop as he doesn't like any of the toys I've given him lol
Of course it must be supervised :) but Is he still too young? I doubt he could do any damage to the rawhide.

G'day Chocky, to each it's own? It really depends on your dog, some dogs stomach don't tolerate rawhide and vomits. If the size bitten off was too large and swallowed, it can cause a blockage = constipation / bloody loose stool / emergency vet.

If I remember correctly, you can buy marrow bones at Coles, deer antlers and bully sticks are also good, I never had a problem with them.

Hello!  just wanted to say we just tried the bully sticks and our 2 LOVED them!  ours will pretty much chew on anything, some things they are supposed to and some things they're not :-)    rawhide gives them the runs so no more of those!  mia and herky really like their kongs.  i use peanut butter inside and they chew chew chew!  they are almost 6 months now and have been chewing these for quite awhile.  i especially like when they put their noses in (or try to), they look so funny.  also when carrying around their bully they look like they have a cigar in mouth, which we get a kick out of also!

Mine got rawhide at 3 mos. and were fine with supervision.   The key is making sure you get good rawhide and the right size. Always buy American made and the natural ones (not bleached and not basted or flavored).  Also, many cheaper rolls and knots are stuffed with sharp little fragments that are choking hazards.  The good ones are made with thicker, whole sheets of hide.  The nice ones are more expensive and harder to find, so you might have to mail order.  For Chocky's size, a 6-inch braid or roll would be fine.  My favorite brands are Three Dog Bakery (which is local to me) and Drs. Foster and Smith (premium grade bones).  Target sells USA-made rawhide, but I've had mixed results with those causing stomach upset.

Chocky lives in Perth, Australia - there are plenty of Australian made products down under :)
OOPS!  My bad.  Sorry, Chocky. :(
It depends on how  motivated your little guy is but I used to give Frank a Kong with a ziggy inside, starting around 2 months old. Once he figured out how to get a whole one out, I would cut the ziggy in half so it was harder for him to get out. I bought the puppy sized Kong and the puppy ziggies. He still has his puppy Kong and it is still intact after almost 2 years. I have since moved to other stuffings like pedigree busy bones cut into 5ths. I know they are not good for your dog, but he gets so few (only about 1/5th of a medium sized bone) every 4 or 5 days so I'm ok with it. I also stuff the Kong with cooked lasagna noodles, his food mixed w/peanut butter and frozen, Kong treats, etc. Key is variety with Frank, so I have 3 different Kong type toys all stuffed with different things. Its good to teach them to use their brains to get the treats while they are young, bc once they are older and have everlasting energy its a nice way to buy you some quiet time :-)
I only used Compressed rawhide its sheets of rawhide layed on top of each other to make a big hard rawhide. If your puppy has never had rawhide I recommend letting him eat the rawhide for about 5-10mins at first, 1) so you see how fast we eat it 2) we can see if the tummy can handle it

I love Bully Sticks (Round or Braided I noticed dogs eat the long straight ones to fast), Deer Antler are very long last chews but some dogs don't like them. Hooves as well great for puppy teeth.
hi there... this might interest you! My guy LOVES antlers.. as do all our family dogs!

Both of my dogs had rawhides when they were little, as long as he is supervised and it doesn't upset his tummy I think you should be fine. My guys both LOVE antlers and bully sticks if you can find those in your area.
