I was wondering how everyone made their decision to own a Corgi. There are 1000's of breeds out there, yet why the Corgi? I choose to get a Corgi because I was looking for a high energy dog that was smallish, yet didn't have the intellect of a poodle (no offense to poodle's or their owners) My parents have an amazingly smart border collie, so I was looking for a dog that would be more or less from the same genre. My dad introduced me to some of his client's Corgi's and always boosted how smart they were, even when they were pups! So that's what sold me, that and those ears are adorable!

What about everyone else?

My mother raised St. Bernards when I was a child and has been breeding and showing Pointers for the past 13 years. She has always wanted to give my kids her ultimate gift...a dog. We had to lovingly decline a Pointer a few times but when my daughter Kirby turned 10, my mom went to work on her. Kirby liked little dogs and would have loved a Pomeranian but my husband prefers bigger dogs. My mom got with her Corgi breeding friend, Julie and set the ball rolling. Kirby and I began really looking at corgis online and fell in love. We found out there was a thing called a fluffy corgi and we thought they were the cutest. Imagine our delight when we found out that Julie had four fluffs in her litter and we could have one!!! Twinkie has been an interesting addition to our house with two kids and two other dogs. Everyone loves her and we can't figure out we everyone wouldn't want a fluff
I just lost my aussie/border collie mix last month -- I LOVE sheep dogs and I wanted another sheep dog that would have similar traits as my Beckett (intelligence, agility skills, etc.) but wouldn't be so similar to Beckett that I'd try to turn my new dog into him. (I had actually adopted Simon BEFORE Beckett died -- I knew he was going to go this year, he was very old and sickly, but I hoped it would happen after I got Simon home so that there would be no gap of time without a friend for my OTHER dog, Josie.) Also, I pet sat for 3 corgis when I lived in CA, and I fell in love with the breed, cause they are so funny and loveable. Simon is finally here, and I can already tell what a joy he'll be! (As soon as he stops biting my hands and feet, that is! )
My husband I has no idea about Corgi, Once we have dinner with my boss who is a British, she told us that the dog we are wondering about the breed is a Corgi - The Queen's dog what Brits call them. but still that is not going to make us to have a corgi. the real reason we got Lorenzo was he was heavily discounted when we were in the pet store looking for a puppy. I remember he is in sound sleep on his back. -- according my husbank what he read is " I don't care how much you are going selling me".

and we love corgi ever since.
I knew nothing about the breed, but have always liked them. It seemed the perfect ranch dog. My husband was not crazy about the idea of getting a dog, let alone a Corgi, but now, they are attached at the hip!
We love her bear butt and fox like ears!
It was the fluffy bunny but that made me fall in love with corgis... and the fox face, big ears and short legs.... but I had no Idea how intelligent they were.. I'm so lucky.. I'm in love... I spend more time at home now that I have them. Best dog ever!..
Ive always liked the "low riders" and with further research found out how smart Corgis are. And of course when I first met my Riley...the look he gave and the big standing ears just had me! :D Now, I want to get more corgi puppies...they're adorable smart and very loving dogs!
We've always had a pet. When my brother was in college, he brought home a corgi mix, Delilah, that he rescued from the pound in South Carolina. She was put in a burlap bag and tossed on the side of a road with 5 other puppies - and when they were picked up by animal control, 3 of the pups were dead. My mom wouldn't let him take her back with him to SC, so we had our first corgi (of sorts). We got Algy 7 years later, because my mother had always wanted a corgi. We didn't really do much research, we just got him from a couple that decided to breed their showdogs (bad us!). Delilah mothered Algy and they loved to be around each other. If I ever do get another dog, I don't think I COULD get anything else!! Corgis Rule!!!
My best friend is a breeder. She used to bring her girls in to visit and it's the one breed of dog my husband liked. I was always completely anti-puppy until my old Boston Terrier died. I started looking around at someone to replace him and I got a call telling me that she had always wanted to give me a pup from one of her litters. That's how I got my Zim, he was my Christmas present from her. Sunny was my Christmas present from my husband the next year (full brothers). I don't know what I ever did without mad corgi love!
We had just moved into our new house. We were very house poor and didn't have money for any improvements. One day our neighbor had a friend and her daughter over for a backyard BBQ. Barb called us to her fence to meet them. The young girl was holding the cutiest puppy I had ever seen. We all know what the breed was. We went to dog shows to investigate the breed beyond the blurbs in books. You always knew when you were by the corgi ring, because you would feel a two footed nudge on your leg. They were the only breed group that the trainers would encourage you to pet their dogs. They would always say, "the worst thing you can do to a corgi is ignore them". That was my dog. We started a fence savings account and the rest is history.
That's so true - about ignoring a corgi!! But who could, right?
Not possible! Even when you want to.
Fame, wealth, and power eluded me. So I got a corgi.
Actually, I did not. My wife got them. My good karma.
