worried about stealing
am i being over reacted or should i worry?
when i take him out i am alway there with him until he has done his business but sometimes i am in a hurry and leave him out there for about 20mins. i am worried that in that time someone will steal him even though i am always looking out the window. i mean we live on the air force base but i dont trust so easily. he has his tags on and is microchiped but still, i havnt seen one corgi here DC or SC for that matter and cant help the though crossing my mind that someone will snatch him but like i said if i am in a rush and he has to go i really dont have a choice at times.
there is a gate on our fence but i suppose if someone really wanted him they would just jump the fence. i see people just leaving there dogs out for hours but i dont feel so sure. my husband thinks i am very reacting but idk:(

I'm terrified that our baby will get stolen too. I've only seen one other corgi out and about in this city. Plus with her being a female and not spayed yet (only 8 weeks old) I'm afraid some evil jerks will steal her to make rare "designer breeds" because they seem to like those here.

ugh, "designer breeds" i cant stand them! i would hate for anything to happen to your baby

My boyfriend didn't originally want to spay her, because she's registered and we're going to be working with her CGC and therapy and stuff, but when I told him about what all it takes to be a breeder (my great aunt is a yorkie breeder, so I know) he changed his mind fast, she's getting a spay as soon as the vet says she can.

Watch out with those yard signs. Should there be any kind of bite incident or fight with your dog, that sign shows that you were aware ahead of time that you owned a dangerous animal. Being "strange", on the other hand, is probably not illegal. I don't recall a dog ever being placed in quarantine for being "strange." I also like the the "Be Aware of Dog" sign. Ambiguous, and counts on the illiteracy of the reader :)

On advice similar to this my neighbor got a dog that said "Dog On Premises". She was more worried about workmen being bitten but I warned her about the liability of knowing your dog might bite. I know that's not the issue here but I know how informative these forums are for all sorts of reasons.

I have one suggestion I haven't seen. On our horse pasture gates we take a big snap hook~like the one at the end of your leash hook and wrap it around the gate and snap it! You can buy a white leash that matches the fence and wrap it around the gate and snap it on the handle . Even if kids or an adult are trying to grab a ball out of your yard it would take awhile to un snap and get it off from the from opposite side. It is an easy way to secure the gate from opening and doesn't involve a lock! Although kids in our neighborhood have jumped the fence, after putting a snap hook and wrapping it they can't leave the gate open.

thank you Joanne, i love the suggestion:) so technically i cant get in trouble by the housing people on base. they say no locks but this isnt one, just a security feature lol

One thing I've done is plant Nootka roses -- a fast-growing, very well-armed native barrier plant -- at strategic places to reinforce the front fence. Organic barbed wire.
