Adrian & Henry, I don't think you understand, the kind of taping I'm referring to is 100% harmless, I'm NOT talking about like on boxers and great danes that get cropping that requires surgery. It is just a tad bit of tape that holds them up. Perhaps a little awkward for a few days but not inhumane or cruel. It is so simple I don't even know how to describe it. Large busted women sometimes duct tape their "girls" in. It is simple tacking on of a little tape. It peels off, no blood, no surgery, not even a whimper as long as you use tape that isn't super sticky.

Since your baby is so little I would not worry about his ears not standing up at this point. I am sure they will eventually. I doubt you would send him back because they are not standing up fast enough. Personally I would never use tape to position my corgi's ears to stand up. I think that is inhumane and cruel. If they are supposed to stand up then they will. Usually they do. =)

Others may have another recomendation but I use CHEAP duct tape. Dollar General, Wal-Mart brand. This is because it doesn't stick quite so bad and you can actually get it off without pulling hair out. The Duck tape brand duct tape sticks to good and is hard to get off.............if all you can find is the Duck brand, I suppose a person could wear it out a little on a towel or something before applying it to reduce it's stickyness.

8 pounds is certainly on the large side of average. Larger pups usually equal larger ears and larger ears take longer to stand and do benefit from being taped except it is different than with a boxer. They are taped flat sanwhiched between two pieces of tape and each of the taped ears bridged together with another piece of tape. In the show world, big ears that take longer to stand is actually a desirable thing. I used to fret when my pups ears weren't standing by 8 weeks but have since become more patient with them. With Corgi ears, big is beautiful. I have a litter right now I intend to keep a pup from for showing and I suspect I will be taping some ears to speed up the standing process.

Wynstan was about that weight when I get him, If his ears didn't go up, my breeder was going to show me how to do it. I have the benefit of having Wynstan on the same vet schedule as the breeder I got him from, so everytime I am there, we are both waiting in the lobby.
Some vets do not know how to tape certain breeds ears up properly, and my vet admits that he is not used to taping corgis.

Thank you for writing. He's eight weeks and eight pounds. Is that big? I've been looking at how to tape the ears. Have you ever heard of that or anyone who did it? I have two boxers and their ears were taped by the vet to get them to stand.

my puppy's ears didn't stand up until a few days before 12 weeks. My Wynstan is a big pup and that is what took him awhile. Is your puppy big?

My puppy's ears haven't even started to stand yet (he is eight weeks old). I am worried. Any ideas?

I never even thought that it might be a bad thing! The smell comes from his fur, not his breath, but I will definitely ask my vet. Thanks!
