To Rachel. Reaghan has finally mastered shake, and now knows the difference between left and right. She has one of those personalities where you try to teach her something, but she won't learn it until the lesson has been attempted to be taught several times and then dropped for a couple weeks. Then she has it mastered, even though no work has been put into it for those couple weeks. But back to how I got her to shake. What I did was I would command shake as I took her paw, hold it for a brief second, immediately treat, let go. She used to want to lay down also, but I highly encouraged her to sit, thus why I would reward so fast as soon as I had her paw. After your pup has shake itself mastered with both paws, then you can teach the difference between left and right :)

Also, having the potty pads in the house does encourage her to potty in the house. So after you have your potty pads removed, make sure to clean the spot well where the pads were. Make sure that the cleaner you use does not have ammonia in it, or the cleaning process won't work. I hope all I said makes sense for you! Lol

Lauren, refer to Melissa's post on crate training (next page). In combination with your crate training, take your pads and gradually move them toward whichever door in the house you use to take the dog outside. As the dog gets used to the pads being by the door, eventually take one of the used #2 pads and put it outside the door and highly encourage her to use the one outside and reward her well. But if she does not potty outside, put her in her crate (same steps as in Melissa's post). Once she gets used to the fact that she is pottying #2 outside, you can then move the pad toward the spot you want her to potty at. Once she's used to this process and solely uses the pads outside remove the pads in your home. And maintain the no happy voice and minimal contact for returning her to her crate when she doesn't succesfully potty outside. I hope this helps

I hope someone can help. I am having a HUGE issue with Miss Emma going #2 outside.She tinkles outside just fine. What's going on? We have crate trained her until our eyes have popped out but have not succeeded. We have 2 puppy pads in the house that she usually uses religiously. One is for #1 and the other is for #2. So she knows the difference, but how do we get her to go #2 outside? It's so frustrating!! HELP! :)

Hey Melissa....

The Kennel trick seems to be working!!! Josie's business is being done regulary out side! I also recently sold her sister so that makes it easier on me to work with one rather than 2. Thanks for your help

We supplemented with cottage cheese as well. The breeder had taped Penny's ears but we took the tape off prematurely because it was bothering the heck out of her. Her one ear fell again about a day after taking the tape off. I'd say at about 13 weeks her ear was on and off standing on it's own again and by 14 it was up for good. It takes some time with their growing and teething.

Casey, I did the same thing, it worked for me and I just think it helped a little. I also used string cheese as a treat due to the added calcium.

(In reference to ears not standing up) A little late chiming in, but we were having the same problem with Zwei's ears. I read in many places to give them a small amount of cottage cheese with their puppy kibble, so we tried that & it worked wonderfully for him. It was a win-win situation - I'm happy to see his ears up, & he LOVED the cottage cheese! Not sure if it was the cottage cheese, or it was just their time, but it's worth a shot at least. Hope that helps.
