Academic Corgis

For those of us that can say "My dog ate my Midterm Paper". How do we keep our little bundle of energy entertained while we are dealing with the stresses of grad school (or undergrad) :-)

Who else uses their corgis as study buddies? I'm pretty sure Orion and Laika know all there is to know about the fertilization, cleavage, and gastrulation of the sea urchin zygote after this weekend. I pulled up power point slides and taught them to the dogs. It worked too because I aced my test! ;)
I'm gonna have the smartest dogs around, haha

Hey Guys. Im a Pre-Medical student at UCLA and just got our puppy quixote a few weeks ago. Shes already chewed up part of a biology, psychology and neuroscience book. And she found some of my old lab assignments and gave them a good chew too! lol Even though its a lot of work, studying all day for Mcats definitely gets lonely and boring and I love having my little ball of energy here to keep me company. We go out on several walks a day to take study breaks : ) she is allowed on UCLA campus, dogs are there all the time. But I have not taken her yet, soon though!

Loved that article-- we had a version of it in our paper, and I thought how wonderful it would be. I had Madoc with me at the office one day last week and as we were walking from the parking lot, everyone who passed smiled and sqee'd and wanted to pat him. Certainly was helping post-Thanksgiving pre-finals blues on campus! We've had a good semester-- doggie daycare on Fridays while I cleared my desk for the weekend-- and being able to adjust schedules for Madoc's periods outdoors. Looking forward to finishing up and enjoying the holiday break!

We have only had Bailey for about three weeks now, and the first week we were with her 24/7 (inside the house as well as in our backyard, which is her main home) When we realized that soon we won't be able to be home all day anymore. We started adjusting her slowly to our school and work schedules. We would leave her in the yard to see how she did without us. We were expecting a lot of complaints in the form of whining and barking. But she proofed us wrong. She is quite happy by herself in the yard. She never barks or whines for us even if she knows we are right behind the window. We also have adjusted her feeding schedule to what it would be like when we are not home with her. We just have to get her off her 12:30 lunch and then we are good to go. Even though I know she will be fine home alone once we leave, I still worry. Right now I am right there to see that she is fine and happily playing in the yard, but once I sit in lecture all day, I'll be wondering what she is up to.

The nice thing is that she is not even destructive in the yard. Sure she chews a bit on our other dog's bedding but she doesn't dig or tear out all the flowers. She has a little patio that she is the queen of :-)

I am starting to worry too! Madoc has had all my attention this summer, from being a 12 week old pup when we brought him home in early May to being a frisky 6 mo. "adolescent." Hate to think of him feeling abandoned! I thought I might try bringing him to school with me one day and see how he did in my office while I went to class. I can walk him around in between classes and meetings. But I worry that if he whines or barks, he'll disturb others. Last fall I brought Arrow, a 14 year old deaf Corgi I was babysitting for colleagues in England, and she was wonderful. She never vocalized in any way, and students coming to my office hours LOVED her. No one on the hall ever complained. She's the dog that opened my heart to getting my own corgi. But Mad is quite a bundle of puppy energy. I am also thinking about one day a week at Flying Fur for doggie daycare. Let me know how the rest of you are planning to keep the youngsters happy during school days.

Sarah: that is great that doggies are allowed on campus. I don't think they allow on school grounds where I go, but it is something that I can definitely look into.

Welcome to the group Nicole and Stella...

I am prepping to go back to law school in about 2 weeks. Bailey will be 12 weeks when I go back. I am a bit worried since I wil have a full schedule plus an internship lined up.
