We have been doing agility for 2 years now and Mickey thinks it's a lot of fun. He's got the energy and ability. We are not competing, just doing lessons but maybe we'll be ready this summer. I'm so glad to have the chance. He went missing 6 days ago and we just got a call that he was found far away yesterday. We are certain that he was stolen and grateful to the agility and dog loving network who got out the word and his pictures. I advise everyone to get your dog microchiped. Whoever took him had removed all his tags. We don't know why they let him go, but we are very happy now.
If you are interested in doing agility I hope you can find a club nearby. It's not just a matter of training the dog. Learning how to communicate with your dog is a lot of fun and makes a big difference. Mickey absolutely needs the activity and the concentration. Plus it has made a very strong bond between us. I'm so thankful that didn't have to be broken.

Welcome new agility fans!! First off, I recommend teaching your Corgi the basic obedience...sit, down, come, heal, and stay. You'll want to work on start-line stays, and definitely making sure you're Corgi is in tune with you (focus games). You can do these with young Corgis without worrying about their joints. Also, working with tunnels and the chute is great for all levels.

My pup is only 4 months old but I've always liked the idea of agility. I met a lady who shows corgis recently and was talking to her and she very seriously said to make sure not to let her jump off of couches or do any "strenuous exercise" until 18 MONTHS because they're still developing and can hurt their backs.

I asked what she meant by strong exercise and she meant the agility things like going up stairs and too much jumping. So just be careful with your babies!

Hi everyone, I'm in interested in getting spartan into agility and look forward to it, any advice on how to get started would be great. I know for now learning basic commands is a must first. I'm excited to get him started. Seems like alot of fun for the both of us.

Hello, I am getting ready to start agility and was wondering abiout some things. I am doing confirmation right now but everytime the agility happens to be next to us he watches it very closely and I think it looks more fun anyways

I am not an agility expert by any means, but I started Penny on it at home while she was 5 or 6 months old. She loves jumping over hurdles. At first I used a leash and treat to coax her to walk over the bar. And now she just jumps it for fun. She responds to "jump." I made a make-shift chute for her out of a beach towel and pvc (ghetto!) and she just ran under it like it was no problem. I hear that weave poles are the most difficult to master. ToysRUs sells cheap practice jumps. The might be $15 or $20. Those might be worth trying at home just to see if your dog will like agility. I'm sure she will though! I want to find a cheap nylon tunnel! That would be fun.

One big question I have is whether to do bits of all at once or start with one and really focus on it, ie only obedience....
