For the agile Corgi--whether it's to rein in that rambunctious energy, hone in that intelligence, or just to have something to do--it's AGILITY!

CPE is a great place to start a baby agility dog. The environment is much more low key and less competitive than AKC. Level 1 does not require the dog to perform the weave poles or the teeter. Those obstacles might be on the course, but there will be a way to qualify without performing them for the L1 dogs.
CPE has 4 title Categories, Standard, Handler Games, Fun Games and Strategy Games. For a Standard title you must earn a certain number of qualifying runs in Standard. To earn the different Games titles, you earn qualifying scores in each of the games in that category. So instead of titling in Jumpers as in other venues, in CPE you earn qualifying runs in Jumpers and Full House to title in Fun Games, in Snooker and Jackpot to title in Strategy Games, and in Colors and Wildcard to title in Handler Games. You might want to look at the CPE rules online. It explains all the games, what you have to earn to title at each level, and the different jump height categories. http://www.k9cpe.com/forms/2013rb.pdf
Corgis can take a height exemption once they are 3 years old and may run as an Early Veteran. Similar to AKC's Preferred class CPE has Enthusiast which has your dog run 4" lower than their measured jump height. Or in CPE they also have Specialist which will have your dog jump 8" lower than their measured jump height. The difference between the jump height classes (other than their jump height) is the SCT (Standard Course Time) for the dog. An Enthusiast that's regular jump height is 12" but is jumping 8" as an Enthusiast will have the SCT for 8" applied to their run. However a Veteran (including early Veteran) measuring 12" and jumping 8" will have the SCT for 12" applied to their run. That means that if your dog needs more time to complete his run it's better to enter as an Enthusiast rather than an Early Veteran/Veteran because usually the higher the jumps, the shorter the SCT. It seems confusing at first but basically for timing there are 3 categories, Regular/Veteran, Enthusiast, and Specialist. Regular/Veteran has SCT for their measured height applied to their run, Enthusiast has SCT for 4" below their measured height applied to their run, and Enthusiast has SCT for 8" below their measured height applied to their run.
Aging memory with the weaves!
CPE is super fun! Go! No weaves or teeter in Level 1. :)
CPE Level 1 requires neither weaves nor teeter.
As I remember, you do have to do 6 weaves in L1 Standard at least. You can look it up on their web site. Murray tends to drop bars, especially on rear crosses so Snooker is especially stressful. He also has been known to complete a game successfully, then stand with his nose over the table and refuse to touch it! In CPE the table is often used as something to stop the clock at the end rather than a 5 second pause...but since he associates it with having to wait it is his least favorite obstacle. Luckily, he seems to have gotten over that problem. Even if your weaves aren't great, I'd go ahead and do it. Practice in competition is always good.
Yes. I would highly recommend them. Tend to be a bit more informal and laid back than AKC. There are no "refusals" called. On some games, but not all, you can have one dropped bar and still qualify. You can do up to 5 runs a day which is nice. Besides, Standard and Jumpers, there are a number of strategic games where the handler has to make choices..for me and most people "snooker" is probably hardest to understand and execute. Go for it and have fun!
Make sure to clear your history or hit the reload button. Once it fails, then subsequent tries reload from cache instead of actually trying to load from the net.
I've tried three diff days, but the NADAC is website is always down? Does anyone have a good link to them?
