I saw this on the news last night and I felt the same way, it was blown out of proportion. They said the Corgi was in the car and appeared uncomfortable but was perfectly fine. Granted, I wouldn't leave my dog in the car in the summer for any amount of time but his Corgi was fine and I doubt he meant it any harm.

Don't get me wrong, I do not condone leaving any animal in a hot car unattended.

I saw it also, but I think it got blown way out of proportion, as his 5 yr old Corgi was just fine and was not in any danger. Sometimes people just get paranoid about something like this. No big deal.

Just saw an article about Dan Harkins (owner of Harkins Theatres) being cited for animal neglect for leaving his Corgi in a car :o(

Thanks, Doug. So far no problems with him getting irritated. He looks forward to it every morning, to get that extra fur off of him. Yes, there are times I think he is just a big ball of fur, wrapped around an appetite. Right now, he is just finishing up with 'blowing coat', and I'll be glad when that's over for another year.

My wife was using the Furminator on Gromit every day when I happened to read the Furminator web page more closely. Turns out they seem to suggest not using it daily as it can irritate the skin of some dogs. Debbie has taken to using the Furminator about once a week and normal brushing every other day or so. Google "furminator skin irritation" for more stories.

Goodness knows it's hard to imagine you could brush too much fur off of a Corgi. I told someone once there's actually no dog in there, just fur all the way through from one side to the other.

I use a furminator on Toby daily, as part of his morning routine. Get a good handful of fur each day. I have PetSmart trim his anal area every 2 months to keep it clean back there. Sometimes it looks like a little white donut and looks kind of cute. That furminator is the best thing I've found to keep his fur under control, and really is great in the summer heat.

About shaving and the heat: A Corgi's thick coat also acts as an insulator against the heat for short periods of time. As long as your dog has access to cool shade and plenty of water I wouldn't think shaving it should be needed.

You do need to exercise caution when going for walks though because it will be easy to overheat your pal even after dark or early in the morning. More info here and an infrared image of my old Corgi pal Watson laying in the sun on a 100° day.

As to cutting corgi's hair. What i've been doing is cutting down her butt hair. My husband says she looks like she has a flat top..........on the rest of her I usually have her furminat..................to loosen the excess hair...............and then possible a trim..............I've been using Petsmart on Loop 101 and 27 ave.........I';ve gone to a few places.......................Rosemary
