Thanks for all the input guys! I need as much good info as possible.. I'll know what to do --maybe. We do live in the woods and ticks are a problem. I'll talk witht the vet next time we're in..which is soon. Thanks again!

I've noticed that every time we use anything that goes on the neck, all of our corgis (all colors) have a little break out where the stuff was applied. This last annual checkup, the vet gave us Revolution - it's supposed to fight fleas, ticks, AND heartworm - no heartguard needed. I'm not sure how an exterior treatment is supposed to fight heartworms, but the vet reassured us.

All that said, we still get a bit of a breakout for a couple of days, but not nearly as bad as frontline. And the stuff seems to be working. No fleas, a few ticks.

When we had Sparty tested for allergies years ago we were told that we should use a topical flea preventative because the pill only keeps the fleas from reproducing. The topical stuff actually kills them. Fleas are one of his many highly allergic to items and we use Advantix with good results.

Pat, it's an oral tablet. I'm pretty sure it only works on fleas, which is why the folks who live in tick areas are reluctant to go on it. Our area is so-so when it come to ticks but we have fleas really bad!

Anyone: Is Comfortis taken orally or is it topical? Haven't heard of it. Is it strictly flea control or is it for ticks also?

Geri, no side effects, though be sure they eat before you give it. I had to have Bill in for a cortizone shot (he was driving us both crazy with his chewing) and put on the comfortis, which starts working in 30 minutes. My malinois is also on it and no probs with either of them.

To Jenny Lacasse... Thank you so much for the info. We had suspected for awhile that the Frontline wasn't really working and my husband had wondered if it was affecting Sophie. (She is a red.) We will use Advantage in the future. We even mentioned it to her groomer and asked if perhaps the shampoo was the problem. Our male has no problems with itching. Thanks again.. can hardly wait to tell my husband.

What about like hayfever allergies. My little Cooper has allergies that tend to be during the spring and summer. His little nose runs and gets crusty and he whezes at night. I give him Benadryl, but that tends to constipate him. The vet just says that he has allergies.

Mary, there have been no weird side-effects? And is it effective?

Just started the comfortis 2 months ago, Bill was highly allergic to one flea! I like it better than the topicals because once they eat it, you know they got it all.
