Eeek, our vet charged us $25 I think. All depends where you go! I think $60 to check a stool sample seems pretty excessive. Did they see Mia at the same time though?

Mia had her stool checked less than 2 weeks ago and everything was fine. It cost me almost 60$ at the Monkland Clinic....

There are many debates about high protein diets. You can research online for both sides of the debate. I believe in high protein diets fairly exclusively but there are others who argue about it. You can also fast her for 24 hours Viola. Some peopl are uncomfortable skippign meals, I am not though! :) Humans invented breakfast, lunch and supper so you have no reason to feel guilty if you want to give her system a break for 24 hours of food. Then start with chicken and rice if you want....
Judy is right though. You can always just bring a stool sample into the vet. They can test it and tell you if she has anything. Usually costs about $20-30.
Good Luck! Mickey went through hell and back with his diarhea and it turned out to be worms and a nasty case of them too! He also had Giardia but the worms were doing most of the damage.

I just spoke to my vet. She said that Mia must have eaten something she shouldn’t have. She told me to mix her food with rice and give it to her in small portions throughout the day. As for the loose stool that she usually has, the vet told me that many of the puppies she treats who are on Orijen have the same problem, since it is so high on protein (at 40%); she recommended switching her food to a lower % of protein ( 27 to 30 % is ideal). Since Mia’s stool was only soft today (no diarrhea) the vet told me that she is most probably getting better; even after I asked her 3 times if I should come in she told me no, only if it comes back and gets worse. So we shall wait and see… let’s hope she gets better…

Viola, if it doesn't go away soon, it might not have anything to do with the food. She could have picked up Giardia or something. Best to consult the vet if things don't improve

Thank you ladies,

It’s been pretty bad the last couple of days, it’s not even loose stool that she has but diarrhea. I’m definitely going to switch from Orijen, not only because it doesn’t seem to be working for Mia’s tummy, but she’s not even that excited to eat it as she use too be. As for grain free, you’re right Justine, it is important. So I’m looking between Acana Prairie Harvest, Acana Grasslands, or Acana Pacifica. It would be great if one of them would be low allergen, but you can’t have it all can you… I can’t believe how hard it is to find the perfect dog food!

The Acana lamb and apple is 40% lamb,30% regional fruits and vegetables, and 30% steel cut Alberta oats. It is considered a single grain , low allergan food. We also feed Taffy the Pure Vita brand (by NutriSource) which comes in 3 flavours. Origen is also tolerated well by her, but I rotate thebags so her system gets used to many kinds. She has NEVER (touch wood!) had diarreah or constipation,,,on anything! Good constitution i guess :)

Orijen can be too high in protein for some dogs. Ours did really good on it however. For puppies who dont do well on it they suggest switching to it when they are older. Mickey went through a period at about 8 months when he didnt do well on it. We switched to Taste of the Wild which is lower in protein and still grain free. Perhaps Mia ould do well on that. Our main concern is that it is grain free for our dogs. I think taste of the wild is 32% but I could be wrong. Mickey did awesome on that but we switched him back to Orijen solely because we didnt want to buy two bags of food and so we tested it out and he was perfect of Orijen. Corgis have SUPER sensitive tummys Viola. We went for months with Mickey having diarhea. I did everything I could think of and nothing friggin worked. He turned out to have worms! Then he got better but would still have it now and again. Now the ONLY time they get it is when they go to the dog park..haha...but considering the poop 75 times each there I cant imagine it would be looking good by the end. Dont stress if she is having loose poops though. If you want a quick relief while you try to figure everything out, add some pumpkin to her food. Canned (not pumpkin pie filler) pure pumpkin... a tablespoon twice a day or something. That should fix everything up. :)

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to know what you’re feeding your little bunnies?
Mia has been on Orijen puppy for a while; however it doesn’t seem to agree with her tummy so I am now looking to change. I’m thinking of switching to Acana Lamb & Apple (Judy mentioned it to me once). I think that Orijen puppy might be too high on protein for Mia at 40% (Acana Lamb & Apple is lower at 27%).

So what do you feed your little ones??
