Thanks for having us in your group. A corgi in Australia gets lots of opportunities to cool down. Rupert loves water and the shallows of the beach. He has a special way of swimming parallel to the bank - doesn't like to venture too deep. He is a cautious boy!

Heres are mo;lly at the lake. She jumped into my sisters poo; when she was just a pup and would not have anything to do with it for a long time. We finally took her out to a dogpark that has a nice lake where she could just wade or sit in the shallows. soon enough she was venturing into deeper water. Now it is ine of her favorite things to do.

My corgis have water therapy. Therapist recommends life jackets because they tend to barrel roll. She uses "Outward Hound" because flotation is on back and sides, not belly. Decreases the roll factor.

For our little Eleanor we bought her a little plastic pool. Petsmart had it for $9.99 we just keep it filled on our patio (rinsing and refilling as needed) and let her go in it as she feels the need. When I first brought it home I played with her in it...well I didn't get in but I put some of her toys in it and sat along side of it it and kind of egged her on to get her toys. It's been about a month now and she LOVES her pool! She's not a big fan of sitting down in it. It kind of reminds me of the game Perfection when the buzzer goes off. She plops her butt down and almost instantly POPS back up! LOL But she loves running around in circles in it! We ordered her a lifejacket from Baxter Boo for when we take her up to my in-laws lake house so she can go in the lake too. That's kind of why we got her the pool so she could get use to the water. When we bath her we fill up the bath tub before we wash her so she can get use to the water being higher up on her.

Baby steps. As with anything you want the dog to do, make it a very awarding activity. In this case a spot to cool off. I like the baby pool idea I see that working well. With my boy it was a shallow lake beach and a Virginia August heat wave.

Yanique, a shallow baby pool is a good way to get your dog used to the water.  If it's a hot day, your puppy will probably enjoy the cool water on its feet.  Also, shallow lakes and ponds with ducks are good for motivating your dog to get wet (avoid geese though, as they'll go after your dog).  If want your dog to learn to swim in a pool, river, ocean, etc., try getting in with her.  I also use a lifejacket on Fauna so if she gets caught in a current, she won't get too exhausted and scared as she swims back to the boat.

Hi All!  Can you advise how you got your Corgi's to love the water?  I am looking to get a new puppy very soon and like on lake and want to make sure he isn't afraid of the water.  My first Corgi fell into the pool when he was a puppy and was afraid to jump in but still loved the water but seemed very afraid.  I want to do it right. Not sure if it's best when they are pups or adults.  Any help is appreciated!

Here is Gambler first trip to the lake! He is 13 weeks and a Water Loving Corgi too. His big sister is below riding the Jetski! How lucky an I? Two water lovers!!
