I just got an email from our local Humane Society that they have a Corgi and that he appears to be 3-4 and a nice boy. Will know more on Sunday when I volunteer there and meet him. If anyone might be…Continue

Welcome to the MN Corgis group. Where do you reside?
Hello Ted!!!
Hello, this is Ted!
Heidi,
I have a 5 month old Corgi and live pretty close to Battle Creek Dog Park. I have never been there but know where it is. How old is your Corgi? - and welcome to the MN group.
I never saw any pictures of the whole litter, did you? That would explain a lot of his somewhat needy behavior. The breeder did keep telling me that he was very snuggly and she was right. If that's the case I think we've more than made up for any lack of snuggling he got as a baby. Watson is super smart, he's picked up on so many things already, sometimes more than we really want him to. He's also very stubborn and doesn't always want to listen. We're hoping to do agility with him to keep his mind occupied because he tends to get bored very quickly.
Watson has lots of favorite treats, though some are a little unusual. His ultimate favorite is sweet snap pea pods, though he likes pretty much all raw vegetables including carrots, broccoli and peas. He also really likes liver treats which are really good for training. His (and our) new favorite thing is to fill his kong toy with peanut butter and frozen peas and freeze the whole thing then give it to him, it keeps him occupied for a good hour and lets us get some things done without a shadow or watch a movie in peace.
Sorry you're having a bit of a struggle with house training, have you done any crate training? Watson took to his crate pretty well and choses to sleep in it every night now. Is Beau making it through the night?
I'm so glad we were able to connect as well! thank goodness for the internet. - Melinda
Melinda -
Sorry, I haven't gotten on my computer in a few days. To answer your question about the suckling of toys, no, Beau doesn't do that. I'm wondering if Watson is the baby of the litter and, as such, really needed more time with Mom, as was suggested to you. Did you ever see an early picture of the babies? There was one pup who was sort of left out of mealtime. It's hard to see if it was a sable or tri-colored puppy, but that may explain things. But it's just speculation on my part. It sounds like Watson is very smart if you've already potty trained him.
I did buy the bells this weekend and so far I think he may be catching on to that. My husband is retired but does contracting work. He's not very good at supervising Beau during the day as I would be so that doesn't help with trying to train Beau.
Can you tell me what some of your puppy's favorite treats are? So glad we connected. - Jane
I agree, it would be interesting to see if they remember each other. I was the last to get a puppy in the litter and was technically not even supposed to get one from that litter since I was #11 on the list, but I guess a couple got bumped to the next litter. I had no preference for gender or coloring and I got the other sable male (I think there were 2) and the last of the bunch.
http://poochie-pets.net That's a link to the bells we use with Watson. We just hung them from the door and for a few days every time we took him out we pointed to them until he rang them and then said "outside?" and took him out and after a few days he made the connection and started ringing them spontaneously himself. Has worked ever since. Although he does occasionally ring them for attention, it's better than him not letting us know at all.
I hear you about the chewing. Watson also pulled up a big chunk of carpet several times. It took us catching him and scolding several times before we could trust him out of site in a carpeted area.
This may seem like a bit of a random question, but does Beau by any chance suck on any of his toys as if suckling or nursing? Watson started this behavior a couple weeks after we brought him home and one of our trainers said it can be a sign that he was weened too early. Not that it's a bad behavior, he just does it when he's sleepy and it sure is cute. I thought if any other dogs might do it, it would be one of his siblings.
Oh, that is great! We really should try to meet up sometime! What number pick did you have? I was #5 in the litter of 7 and I wanted a male sable, which is just what I got.
You'll have to give me more information about the bells. I've read about that technique but haven't tried it. Glad it worked for you. Be grateful you've only lost flip flops. Beau's been eating my carpet, furniture, you name it!
