Welcome Home

So over the past days I have welcomed a furry little angel into my home. I thought I had my puppy proofing sealed tight, but I quickly learned otherwise.

Sweet little Lola was my birthday gift, and what a wonderful gift she is. She even came with an additional present, fleas! I can't be too upset because she came from a farm and is healthy overall. Called the vet and was told to try a dose of capstar and frontline. She seemed to have improved greatly. It breaks my heart to isolate… Continue

D-Day

Today is the day! :]

I met a breeder this past Sunday and today I go back to pick out my puppy. They were all too cute. If they had tails I would have sworn they were piglets. I forgot how sharp puppy teeth are too, I had raw knuckles after 5 minutes in the pen.

I am looking forward to being a corgi owner, toughing through the bad and loving the good.

Time to meet my brother for lunch. Have to wait until the breeder is home before the insanely long drive down… Continue

Our corgwyn tolerate water when they are thrown in, and it's not too cold. I bathe them by bringing them into the shower with me. They'll ford a mountain stream when there's no alternative. If you throw your corgi's tennis ball into a lake or the jaws of Hell, (s)he'll go get it.

Unsolicited advice: if you're getting a puppy, spend a LOT of effort on training in the first year. It will SO pay off. One thing I wish I'd done:
Keep a training log. Make a list of all commands you want to teach, and some system to keep you on-task. If you live with a partner(s), make sure everybody is on the same page, doing the same thing. The dog gets really confused if different people treat it differently. My wife and I made this mistake (eg., we had different walking styles and expectations). Be consistent.
