Summit Chief in background. Summit flunky in foreground. Al on our Otter Point summit no-tent bivouac 7/3/11, 6359', night 2 of a 3-day trip. We're sleeping right on top of the summit benchmark. This is the only snow-free ground we've set foot on all day; the snowppack this year is absurdly high. The entire landscape was skiers' paradise, but we saw no tracks or prints at all except for a marmot and a fox or coyote (indistinguishable from Al's tracks). Perfectly corgi-friendly snow travel conditions, 2" of mush-on-crust. This is the 2nd mountain this size we climbed this day in a landscape so enthralling it was hard to remember we're on the same planet. Summit Chief is the name of that mountain, central Washington Cascades.

Your pictures and adventures are inspiring. Although, we may never reach the heights of you, Al and Gwynnie, but we are having fun trying.
