10 AM, July 4 2011, leaving our summit bivouac on Otter Point, 6360', Alpine Lakes Wilderness, beginning our 3rd day almost entirely on snow. Our route of the previous day snakes through this photo like a backwards S, starting at the summit of the slug-shaped snow peak below Mt. Rainier, the volcano at upper-right; then traverses right-to-left across the center; then left-to-right up to us. The center peaks are Chimney Rock and Overcoat. Summit Chief is at the left.
The 2011 snowpack is astonishing, hundreds of times normal for July. As fine a trip as I've ever done. In 3 days, we saw nobody and not so much as a footprint.
