Today is Franklin's 4th birthday!!! Wow we have come a long way together! He is the best companion in the entire world and I couldn't ask for a better best friend! For his birthday he got some new rawhides, a new squeaker toy (which he thinks is the best thing in the WHOLE world), and will be getting a special dinner and some new Kong tennis balls! I have to work today but tomorrow we plan to celebrate in style if the weather holds. We did a fun birthday romp on the river yesterday for a few…

So I've had puppy for 5 days now, he still has no name. Today my favorites are: Crash, Dyson, Ditto, or Kirby. Crash because he is clumsy as all get out, Ditto because he mimics Franklin's every move, Dyson or Kirby because he is a little corgi vacuum and his future shedding will likely keep one or both of those companies in business.
He has been SUCH a good boy so far! He does chew/shred stuff if not being watched. The other day I was studying in the living room and he was…

Today was Franklin's 3rd birthday. To celebrate I took him to his favorite dog beach with a few of his good buddies. He got to run and play for a bit but it was SOOOOOOO WINDY today so we didn't stay very long. I have never been to the beach on such a windy day and I was pretty bummed since we were planning on a beach day for him to run and play and wear himself out, but the wind was blowing the sand right in his face and nobody was really enjoying themselves at all. He a small piece of…

I have come to the conclusion that I really don't think Truck is going to work out for me. He is just too timid and does not cope well with change. I know I should give him a full month, but I've given him a bit over 3 weeks and have seen minimal improvement. My dad came over to stay a few nights and since he has been in the house Truck has been very uncomfortable and nervous. My dad is very soft spoken and dog friendly and Truck will snuggle up to him, but the new person in the house has…

Ok so help, advice, and positive stories of fearful dogs who got better are greatly appreciated!!! Week 2 with Truck has been good and bad. First off, HE IS SOOOOOOOOO FEARFUL!! He is still very timid and anxious.
Issue 1: Fear of cars. If anybody can help me fix this, or relate stories of their dogs that improved that'd be great. Truck is terrified of cars, to the point where if I open my door and he is off leash he will run away and not come when I call him. He did this the other…

I decided to write my Truck updates as a blog post instead of a discussion, I think its more appropriate here. Anyway, today marks week 1 with Truck. So far things have gone great. Yesterday was a day that could have been a disaster but actually turned out pretty well. As I have said before, Truck has separation anxiety. I noticed silver lines on his teeth and asked my vet about them and she said it was from chewing the bars of a cage or fence, so despite the owners insistence he is great in…

My little boy turns 2 today! Its so crazy to think how quickly his puppy hood has passed! Of course I think I love him more as an adult than I did when he was a crazy little puppy! This is a big mile stone for Franklin, when he was a puppy he was incredibly accident prone and in the vets office CONSTANTLY! After his first birthday he developed some health problems that caused him to overheat and collapse whenever he played. So last year was spent running thousands of dollars in blood tests,…
