5 Favorite Things about Having a Corgi

I've been thinking about some of my favorite things about Pixel - the things he does that I love so much. These include: 1) Corgi laps - Pixel loves to run and sometimes in the evening will start running around the living room in wide circles as fast as he can. He just goes and goes. He will do corgi laps in the backyard, too, running around so fast and so happily. Dax (like a good newf) stands in the middle of the circle and barks. 2) Grass and rug rolling. Pixel loves to scratch his back on… Continue

Dax and her good friend, Ziggy

I mentioned our dear friend, Ziggy, who was the first corgi I every really got to know, and who I have the privilege of dog-sitting from time to time. Ziggy was the reason that my husband and I chose to get a corgi. What a marvelous breed. Of course, I had to sit Ziggy on the lawn chair to make him about the same height as Dax. Here they are at my house, enjoying some outside R and… Continue

More examples of Dax's amazing problem solving abilities.

Although I agree that corgi's are smart dogs (maybe it's the herding thing) and well able to problem solve, it turns out that it's not the corgi in the family that's the smart one, but Dax, the Newfoundland. She's so smart it can be a problem, because if she wants something and has decided that she should have it, with her great size and strength she's almost impossible to stop. When we first got her, we put her in our kennel outside one afternoon to… Continue

Dax, Doggy Problem Solver

Dax and Pixel have loved each other from the moment they met. Pixel was so tiny and Dax so big, but she was so gentle and loving, and I never had a moment's fear that she would harm him.

Pixel loves to play with Dax and when he was a puppy he would jump on her, chew on her big droopy lips, pull the hair out of her tail, and be an all around nuisance. Dax never once reprimanded him and never once even barked at him to go away. She did have her ways of coping, though, and really… Continue

Husband's Blog Entry

As I mentioned earlier, Pixel goes paddling with my husband and they both enjoy themselves immensely. Here is a posting that my husband did on his canoe and kayaking blog about their experience on the river: http://photokayaker.fit2paddle.com/paddling-with-pixel-the-water-corgi/ I don't know how to make this link clickable, but you can cut and paste it into your web browser and see them both together - my boys on the river getting "man time" in.

Pixel the Water Corgi

Our corgi, Pixel, has been raised by our older (and extremely tolerant) newfoundland girl, Dax. Dax was a saint while raising Pixel and never once reprimanded him, no matter what he did or how much he tortured her. For a while, she was covered with tiny scabs - the result of Pixel's lack of control with his razor-sharp puppy teeth. One of the things that resulted from being raised by a newf is that Pixel thinks he is a water dog. He will happily run through any puddle, swim in the lakes we… Continue
