Thunder--the bane of little kids and dogs

Last night we had a pretty good thunderstorm going. Poor Skittles! She was panting like CRAZY, which is how she shows that she's nervous. She hid under my covers for a while (until I went to sleep). When I woke up, the storm had passed, and she was checking on me to see if I was awake.

Here in SoCal we don't get anything like you are describing! 85 degrees, sunny and calm right now. The closest thing that we get that scares the dogs is when the Marines are practicing shooting the big guns at Camp Pendleton! We live about 20 miles from the base but you sure can hear (and feel!) the effects of large ordinance going off.

well it must have passed y'all and headed our way in Alabama. It has been pouring all day... the thunderstorms aren't supposed to hit til later this evening. We'll see how Blaze handles thunder and lightning...

Hi, we've had some really unusual weather for Virginia. tornados,
lots of rain, and thunderstorms: one night it thundered al night.
after trying rescue remedy and other essences and herbal meds.
i called the vet: children's benadryl, but it had the opposite affect
on Court the rescue whose history indicates his abandoned
wanderings outside for who knows how long...
I called again, they gave me acepro....it's a common vet medcine
for anxiety in animals...a weenie piece of a pill in cream cheese
and an hour later he is calmer, though in a big storm i dare
say he would still bark...(I tried crating him, going in the bathroom
with him:), ...what did work was walking in the thunder, lightening
and rain; yes, he barked at the sky and ran towards the storm's
direcdtion, but not like in the apt....but who can walk all night?!
anyway, he is much more at peace with this medicine...

We got that storm too, I'm glad that it wasn't this weekend with me being a nervous wreck for the tornado warnings and trying to take care of a new puppy.

Yes, it came through north Austin too where we live. In fact there were 80 mph winds and funnel clouds reported within 2-3 blocks of my house. Quite a light show! What a doozy of a storm, huh? I was doing my best to stay very calm, as a dog will pick up on any stress of the owner. Charlie slept through the whole deal! : - )
