i went to the corgi fair last year (dixon, ca) and i noticed that kaijuu is puny compared to those other corgis (both pems and cardis)

and i noticed a lot of owners on this site that have dogs that arent so fat/chubby~

kaijuu was 25lbs after he was neutered, and perhaps 30lbs now. but i think its because hes so muscular? its not FAT thats on him, its just muscle weight .. or am i lying to myself?

he doesn't eat that much, maybe 1cup to 2cups. depending on his activity, generally just 1cup in the morning, and maybe half later. i mix evo + california natural because since hes semi active + california natural is good for his tummy (its odd i mix them, i know) he doesnt like california natural only ...

we dont give him that much treats. maybe a few baby carrots a week.

May I tell you "do not" feed the recommendations on the dog food bag. Often times that is far too much. Most of my adults eat no more than 1/2 cup twice daily to maintain a nice weight. Much depends on the size of the corgis. Two thing I do....feel over their rib cage. You should be able to feel the ribs as if it has a light quilt over them. Stand over top of them, there should be a definite waist line.

Mei weighs 26lbs and is supposed to be pretty good weight. I feed her 1 cup a day with treats throughout the day (not much though).

Some Corgis are just out of breed standard and oversized. My Basil was a big boy, but not overweight at 35 lbs. I like the way "Charlie" described the ribs as having a slice of american cheese over them. You should not see the ribs, but you should be able to feel them under a layer. If you can't feel the ribs then there is a weight issue. I have my Lizzie on reduced kibble with about a quarter cup of green beans to help her drop weight. It is helping, but it islow. She is still finding goose eggs now and then...her weight nemisis.

Did you ask your vet during his annual check up? they'll be able to tell you what brand and how much to feed, follow the instruction on the package. Adult corgis don't eat as much as puppies. 30 lbs for a male is close to it's max, time to watch the diet, it's really hard to get a corgi to lose weight in my experience. It took us more than a year to get Vienna back to slim and trim :)
