Lucy is doing great! She's adjusting well to her new life with an active "on the go" family. She plays well with our two sons, but tends to get too excited and forgets she isn't supposed to nibble on younger son's ears. That is getting better. We are learning how to read her too and that when she's getting tired, it is easy to overexcite her. She likes clicker training and we use her breakfast for rewards. She has sit, down, touch, and horsey (a rearing up pose we caught by happy accident clicking one time and have repeated) with hand signals. Working on adding verbal commands and she has down as a verbal.

She'll be 10 weeks old tomorrow and 1 week with our family. We are so happy to have her.

So far for socializing....
She's been to a baseball game and met 2 very nice dogs, loads of kids, and some adults who loved on her. She went to Petsmart yesterday for the first time and I carried her since I worried about all the other dogs not having their shots properly. Lots of folks recognized her as a corgi - about 50% I would say. Others just oogled her and wanted to know what she was. She went to lunch with our family before that and we sat outside to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant we go to every weekend. She saw a broom, the vacuum, and lawnmower - no bad reaction! Hooray! We did introduce them a bit at a time over the week. I have been playing with her toes and nails and even was able to cut the excess hair that is growing like a long beard between her pads- no problems. I must admit I had the vet cut her nails while I was there the first day to buy myself some time to get used to the idea of my cutting her nails myself. I think it will be much easier than my lab chow mix that had black toenails and I couldn't see the quick. She had her first bath and did fine. Oh, I love washing a smaller dog! We have two crate: one in our bedroom and one in the main living area. She's been in the main living area crate a few times while I had to leave for an hour to hour and a half and slept the whole time. No accidents then. She learned to go up and down steps already too!

A neighbor's dog was out loose and came over to play yesterday from 2 doors down - a spastic poodle mix that doesn't have very nice manners I found out. They did fine together, but that dog jumps all over me and nips. No way. No more. Lucy was using very shy body language and would run to hide between my feet, then turn around and play with the dog when it did a play bow and scooted across the yard. I swear they can both move at the speed of light!

Lucy watched me work in the yard too. That will happen often in our life together, so it was good for her to see it. I tethered her to a tree, and she HATED it. But she did get used to it after awhile and it was the only way I could get my work done.

Potty training is progressing. Mostly accidents are due to inattentive boys or me. She is sleeping through the night most nights, though last night was HORRIBLE. Took her out at 9 pm, 11:30 since she was awake and I thought it would be good to be sure she was empty, then woke up at 1:30, the at 5 am. She couldn't settle down after the 5 am round and was whining, so I took her out again at 5:15 and she did poop. "See Mom, I really did have to go!" Then hubby got up at 7 and took her to hang out on the back porch with him. Bless him! I sure hope that she has a better night tonight.

I love when she falls asleep on my lap and is like a limp noodle. She likes to sleep with her head hanging down. She has figured out how to get up on our outdoor patio loungers and loves to be up there with us. She wants to get as high up as she can. Power dog! We only allow her up if we are with her and invite her. It is a learning process of course.

I keep remembering that saying, "Either you are training her, or she is training you!" and to have fun with her sweet puppyhood. She smells like a sweet little puppy.
