My puppy Lucy totally forgets all commands when we are on a walk. She doesn't seem to be getting the loose leash walking idea when I turn into a tree...she just zips around at the end of the leash in a circle still holding it taut. There aren't any animal distractions just normal exciting outdoor stuff. All I want right now is a non-pulling dog. She can wander in front, back or to the side. I just want zero tension on the lead.
Sometimes she does look at me and it loosens up a bit…

Lucy is GROWING! She is getting so long she doesn't fit in her nice travel crate any more. We are on the go every weekend and have loved the soft sided one we've been using, but alas....and I know she's only 3 months old so no telling how much more she'll grow.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a LONG one that is working well for your adult corgi. She will be positioned in between my boys on the bench seat in back, and we really want her inside the crate. She falls asleep…

Ok, I must admit I may be too picky. Lucy smells too doggie. Is this a corgi thing or just that is the way it is with dogs?
I know I am not supposed to give her too many baths, but after 3 days she is starting to really smell again. Not the sweet little puppy smell, sadly that is gone. This is just a dog smell. A lady I talked with today has two aussies and could not remember the last time she gave them a bath. She does clean their feet though when they are muddy.
I…

Lucy has gotten so many bug bites! When I take her outside she comes in and has a few new ones each time. I talked to the vet and he suggested Skin So Soft by Avon. Being a Southern girl, I have heard about that bug repellent for years but did not know if it was a myth or not? Anyone with experience in SSS?
I also talked with another mom recently about bugs, and she suggested Burt's Bees Bug Repellent that she said kept even "nuclear mosquitos" away in Miami! That must be good stuff.…

What do you do about dogs off leash at public parks? I take Lucy to our son's baseball games and many others bring their pets too - on leash. One family always lets their big dog off to run loose, hits it when it misbehaves, etc. This dog is scary to Lucy, won't leave her alone, and I would like to relax a bit and watch my son play in peace.
I also was at another park last week and there was a big dog loose without any owners in sight. I picked Lucy up because it was turning ugly,…

Ok, I admit it. I was really worried about attempting to do my puppy's nails and trim the hair around her pads. I had bad experiences before with our wonderful lab chow mix when I accidently cut too deep and just could not bear the thought of hurting her. I also felt like this was something really should be able to do since I can't always run somewhere to have it done.
I waited until my little darling Lucy was fast asleep. Then I grabbed the baby nail clippers (possibly the sharpest…

Ok. Here it is!
A water bottle that has some of her kibble in it and a few liver treats. At first she was really not sure what to do. She could smell it inside but couldn't figure out how to get to it. She has grown stronger since last week when we introduced it and now has figured out how to bat it around on our back porch and have food sling out of it. She also likes trying to go straight to it by biting the bottle in the middle and…

Lucy is doing great! She's adjusting well to her new life with an active "on the go" family. She plays well with our two sons, but tends to get too excited and forgets she isn't supposed to nibble on younger son's ears. That is getting better. We are learning how to read her too and that when she's getting tired, it is easy to overexcite her. She likes clicker training and we use her breakfast for rewards. She has sit, down, touch, and horsey (a rearing up pose we caught by happy accident…

Picked up Lucy and drove home for 1 1/2 hours last night. She was a good girl and only whined a little. She had only been in the car once or twice going to the vet.
Spent the night in her crate in our bedroom and whined for about 10 minutes, then when she quieted down for a minute I sat on the floor with her and talked to her and petted her through the wire door. SHe fell asleep in the most uncomfortable position wtih her nose rammed up against the wire!
She did great…

How old should a corgi be before they will attempt steps safely? Our steps are wood or stone, no carpet.

Yesterday was a busy day getting things ready for our puppy. Still 1-2 weeks to go, but we are thinking ahead. I cleaned out garage this past weekend and hubby brought home the ex pen. I picked up two crates from a friend – THANK HEAVENS for good friends!
One crate is a super nice 36 inch black wire crate that has a divider panel and two doors that will go in the garage Puppy Palace. The door will be fastened open so it won't scare her or trap her. I got hubby involved in figuring…

Ok, our family is just going crazy not having a name to call our little tricolor girl corgi. They don't want to wait until she is home to see more personality.
I want a girlish name. Maybe Irish or the color Green somehow since she was born on St. Patrick's Day. Maybe Welsh since the breed is from Wales. Maybe NASCAR since we live in Mooresville nicknamed Race City USA since 90+ NASCAR teams call us home. Maybe something sweet, chocolate or coffee related. Maybe something heart/love…

Well, we went on Sunday afternoon and spent 2 hours with them all. We have narrowed it down to three. I know...too many to choose from! They were all so adorable and so happy. My boys were in totally heaven. Outside we went and played and played. I took 10 million digtal photos and still can't decide!
Based on temperment they were all great! No one freaked when gently rolled on their backs (except one which was immediately eliminated) and they were all fine having their toes played…

I can't believe it ...the day is almost here. We'll be going on Sunday afternoon to play with the puppies. There are seven and some are tricolors and some are red and white. Ohhhhh the anticipation is about to be the end of me!
Our two boys will be going with us. So much for my plan for calm cool temperment testing! Not meant to be. It will however be so much fun to see them rolling around with all those babies!
I will take tons of pictures and we MAY pick one out that…

Ok, this is the week we get to go see the puppies! I am so excited. I have managed to find a few videos on uTube that show 4 and 5 week old puppies so I think I know what to expect. They will be 5 weeks old tomorrow (Monday) and I am wondering if it is still to early to tell what they'll be like as far as personality goes. I know color can dramatically change too.
I would love to hear what kind of personality temperment testing you guys did your pup and did it accurately predict the…

Names??? Since the Queen has these darling little dogs, and our family heritage is from England and I LOVE London, and all things English, I wanted a name that makes me think of that country. One time I was visting Portsmouth, England on business, and met the sweetest l ittle girl named Lucy.
So...Lucy for a girl. But no real strong contenders for a boy name. I thought of Niles, but don't think my family will go for it. Love to hear some suggestions. City names in the UK, references…

St. Patrick's Day was an exciting day for our family! We found out the puppies have arrived!
There are seven pups. Some are red and white, and some are black and white and will end up being red headed tricolors.
They will be going to the vet on Thursday, and we are eager to hear how they are doing and if they are boys or girls.
We told our two boys that we'll be getting one of these puppies!
Now the next big question will be ...Boy or Girl? What has…
