Lucy has gotten so many bug bites! When I take her outside she comes in and has a few new ones each time. I talked to the vet and he suggested Skin So Soft by Avon. Being a Southern girl, I have heard about that bug repellent for years but did not know if it was a myth or not? Anyone with experience in SSS?

I also talked with another mom recently about bugs, and she suggested Burt's Bees Bug Repellent that she said kept even "nuclear mosquitos" away in Miami! That must be good stuff. Again, anyone else with expereince? The ingredients look fine in case Lucy decides to do the major lick-off event down there. I can get a spray that I can put on her before we go outside.

Poor baby. I know it must be uncomfortable and she just licks and licks the spots. I doubt it is mosquitos, but I guess it could be. I take her outside to a pinestraw bed to go.

I appreciate any suggestions!

I am away from home right now and I can't remember the actual name, but it is made by the same folks that make the aerosol product "Yard Guard". You can get it at Walmart or Target or any garden supply center. Very easy to apply you just hook it up to a garden hose and spray it on.

Something else you might try would be to use the bug repellant that you spray on your lawn. It will control the mosquitos and fleas in the yard and is supposed to be safe for animals. We live on a farm and use this on the yard around the house and it does an amazing job. Especially necessary in this very we spring. SSS really does work, but the perfume could irritate the belly.

Picked up the Burt's Bees repellent, and it is a bit odorous! Thought Lucy might go crazy with the scent and sensitive dog nose, but she has been totally fine with it. Not even a single lick!

I will report back in a few days about how her bites are doing and if she is avoiding any new ones.

The smell is really strong at first. Hubby said it smelled like Citronella and Christmas trees. I thought "Pledge" furniture polish when I smelled it. The smell rapidly calmed down though.

I like the smell, and II figure it does smell better than the doggie smell I am seeing her produce after only 2 days post bath.

Yes, thankfully the vet inspected her and agreed she didn't have fleas. She is wearing her monthly flea spot stuff and I sincerley hoping it is working! I guess they could be biting her while she is out there and then jumping off?

She doesn't have bites anywhere but her skin on her tummy. Well if she did have bites other places, I wouldn't be able to see them would I? You can tell it has been a really long time since I had a dog, eh?

I hate to say this but are you sure it's not fleas?
