Soft sided pet carrier recommendation for corgis?

Lucy is GROWING! She is getting so long she doesn't fit in her nice travel crate any more. We are on the go every weekend and have loved the soft sided one we've been using, but alas....and I know she's only 3 months old so no telling how much more she'll grow.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a LONG one that is working well for your adult corgi. She will be positioned in between my boys on the bench seat in back, and we really want her inside the crate. She falls asleep instantly when she gets in it. Like magic! I do not have much width in the back seat between the boys though, so narrow is better.

I looked at some plastic kennels that are long enough, but they seemed too wide for this.

Maybe I can make something. Maybe use a sports gear bag? I may have to add mesh or something and a support to the bottom, but maybe I can do this! I just don't have time right now, and thought I would ask if anyone had one they would like to recommend.

I promised to let you guys know how this worked. I ended up taking the Target one back. I really wanted a carrier type with handles.

I still haven't been able to find one long enough though I did end up purchasing a plastic Pet Taxi that is working ok. I wanted protection for her in the car, a place for her to sleep, and it had to fit between my boys. It does have a handle and I did carry it into Borders Books last weekend when we had a 5 hour delay between two ball games. It was terribly awkward. She slid around inside, and we really liked the fabric one better.

If anyone has a suggestion for where to locate a travel bag for our corgi's bodies....PLEASE let me know.

Maybe there is a business opportunity here???

There are several reasons to crate a dog while riding in a car. One of the reasons is to help keep a dog contained should you have the dreadful experience of having an accident. Another is to have a strong crate that may help a dog from being thrown around an automobile. While the soft crate will contain the dog under normal conditions it will not help in the others. My suggestion would be to forego the soft crate and get a seatbelt for you pal. This will keep him in place while riding as well as not being thrown from the car should the unthinkable occur.

I also have the boots and barkley crate. Don't you just LOVE the length? I used one of my puffy baby blankets to take care of the bottom problem.

Glad to hear it :) What color did you end up getting?

I just ran out and got the Target one in a small for $19.26. It measures 15x15x26. I think that will be working great! There was plenty of room inside for Lucy right now even when she does her frog leg stretch! It does fit between the seat belts just barely and does have a way to fasten the middle belt through it too.

It doesn't have a very strong bottom though, and we'll want to put something comfy for her to rest on. Very easy to pop up and down and store. Sadly it isn't something we can carry her in and doesn't have pockets for all the pet stuff I end up carrying. I will just have to comandeer my son's old backpack and make it a Lucy-pack!

Tomorrow we'll have a real test case with a baseball tournament that is happening a little over an hour away. We'll drive there, play for 2 hours, then drive home. I bet it works out just fine!

We have a doggy seat belt that I got from petco, its like a harness that gets strapped in. He looks adorable in it.

I wish I could find the link for you, but they do have mediums size at the stores, I'm in FL right now, and we keep that crate in the car up in Canada at this time of the year :(

I like them both, Sam. Only 13 inches between the boys though. Always have both kids. Back is full of baseball gear for tournaments. Hmmm, the Target link doesn't tell me how wide it is. Do you have a measurement by chance?

Ok, we have a toyota matrix up in toronto, so it's just a little bigger than the Xb, but not by much. What we've done with ours is fold down one of the back seats, either the 60 one or the 40 one, use bungee cord to tire it down. you can also lay down a towel below the crate to make it more stable, so that it doesn't slip around the cabin.

We have 2 recommendation on travel crates (not for air travel) . The first one is boots and barkley, we've got the orange medium from Target. Here's the link

We also have the Port A Crate P2 from petsmart, Here's the link, it's heavier and much stronger.

Great idea, Sam!

Toyota Scion XB (the square box one) and the back seat space has a max. with of 13 inches between the seat belt connections.
