The kennel attacked my dog! (Everyone at least read the first para.)

I ramble on, so I will keep this paragraph short. A good amount of you all have a kennel like THIS, and most all of you have a corgi with feet like THIS. Well if your kennel is like that and the divider wall (if one) is up, there may be a gap under the wall. We all know that Corgi's sometimes sleep/lay with their feet behind like in the above linked feet picture. Well if the feet slide under the gap they can sort of ratchet into a stuck position and the more the dog squirms to get free the more he/she gets stuck until eventually I fear they may try twisting out which could be harmfull. Spare your pup injury or a broken leg and make sure that if you have the divider up the dogs feet CANNOT slide under the gap.

On with the rambling...
Cheez-it had a tiny bit of kennel at first, he proved his ability to be good inside it and earned himself a larger plot of land. He has never eliminated inside the kennel, and eventually as he grew ever so slightly, I opened up the divider some until he had plenty of room. He has never cried before, well, I should say he has never cried from pain/scare ect. I have never accidentally stepped on him or anything, so I was very startled to hear him crying loudly when I thought him to be taking a nap. I ran in there and he had wedged his frog-legs under the kennel divider and was quite stuck. Because of the way dogs legs are shaped he could not free himself and he was beginning to panic. There was a good chance that if this were to happen when I was not home, he could have broken his leg and/or nails. It really freaked me out, I thought something was biting him or something?? (No idea what, just the first thought that came into my mind). I immediately ripped the divider from the kennel in a upwards motion, pretty much destroying it, but Lil-cheez is safe and that is the important thing. I can buy a new kennel, and he seems VERY appreciative as if he knew that I really helped him out.

Well, I got a new kennel, he spent a few minutes (petstore is very close) in the bathroom which he hated. I think he was expecting to get a bath any second there. He has a brand new Same-Kennel-He-Had only there is no divider, and I transfered the tray from his old one to the new one so it might smell a little more like home. He's napping in it now and seems to enjoy the even more space than he needs. He is essentially in a full-sized-corgi kennel but he is a pint-sized dog. If he pee's in the kennel I will re-engineer the divider to be safe, I know a bit about welding at least, but I doubt he will get to that. He has never gone in there before, he is a really good dog.

Wow, that's awful. Yesterday Kara was sleeping with her back feet poking outside from where the pan can be removed. Thank you for sharing your post. I will have my DH take a look at what he can do to keep Kara safer.

I have a different type kennel in my bedroom which is the plastic airlines type and use a large cardboard box for now. Maybe that would work? I figure I can switch it out for a smaller box as Lucy grows. Thankfully she hasn't figured out she can shred it yet!

Good save James. It is frightening for a dog that becomes stuck. I have experienced this in the past. Pretty hard to puppy proof everything but there is no teacher like experience. By the time corgi number two comes along you will be a pro!
